EEN calls for backing!

Recommended Posts
Older posters on here (like myself) will remember 1957 and the blankets being taken round the ground. The club avoided going out of business then thanks to the fans and for several years after, the supporters club raised money on a regular basis to help buy players.

NCFC probably only exists today because of those fans (your dads and grandads) and it will be todays fans that bring our club back from the abyss that is Div3.

I was there Lapps, but this board wasn''t, different, honest people back then.[:|]

So Burnley award their faithful (6,000) free season tickets for Premier football whilst the City devoted (18,000) are requested to waive rebates for 3rd tier mediocrity after years of poor business acumen? And in a recession!!

Foulger: "I reckon I''ll get the vote of every thinking person!"

Shyster: "That''s not enough, you need a majority!"

Imo the EEN  should be putting pressure on Delia and her cronies, rather than trying to pressure  good honest city fans to part with their hard earned.

No doubt others will have a different view but it''ll take more than this for me to tear up my rebate letter....
What would it take ?  None of my business, but I just wondered if you have considered what it would take.
Fair Question blah.....

Ideally Mrs Smith and MJW selling up would be a good start but I accept that, although they are both pretty desperate to abandon ship, they can''t do so until someone parts with some money to buy their shares.

My main gripe is the re-appointment of Bryan Gunn.........lovely bloke, '' good egg '', loves us to bits, etc, etc, but, sadly, not a football manager. He and his '' dream team '' had 19 games to save us and we went down without a whimper. I''m not saying that another man in charge would have done any better - ironically as it turned out we wouldn''t have done any worse if Glenn Roeder had remained at Carrow Road - but the Board have stuck with prudence over ambition yet again.

Until they start to show some imagination we''re going nowhere fast.....

"Today the Evening News urges season ticket holders to do what they can to make this financial sacrifice for the club."

http://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/content/news/story.aspx?brand=ENOnline&category=NewsSplash&tBrand=ENOnline&tCategory=NewsSplash&itemid=NOED28%20May%202009%2009%3A54%3A28%3A907

In direct contrast to NCISA''s stance.

Who is right?
You naughty dog!  How about telling the good folk who support NCFC the  story of the vote at the St. Andrews meeting:

75% voted that they would claim their rebate.

The poll on the front page of this website also indicates that approx 70% would claim their rebate.

So who is right? The good people who support NCFC who want to pay Division 3 (old money) for Division 3 football or the

Evening News?

Pretty much agree with you Smithy - it will take a hell of a lot more than the Foulger letter (and even more after the desperate plea from the Evening News). No wonder Delia and her men are complacent about the position they have got us in when we have such biting investigative journalism as that!

It''s not imagination alone though Smithy, I simply don''t trust them. Simple as that. Of course I long (as we all do) for a club run by those who have some idea and the resources to do well, and at present there is not one bit of confidence in me that I can find to back the board in all of that.

They have made similar utterings before. Now they have to deliver promises made as part of a contract to season ticket holders, that''s all it is really, we paid for Championship football and are now going to receive football at a lesser level.

IF I thought every penny was going to a good cause I might waiver, despite my reservations, but one thing still makes me wonder.

Is the money Foulger offering part of his original plans for investment this season or is it a result of his recent investment hunting? Simply would he have donated/invested this money anyway and is this latest statement merely dressed up to make us grateful/proud of him and the others on the board.

No, sorry Mr Foulger, but it will take a hell of a lot more to convince me that you and Delia/MWJ have not only the best of intentions but also the nous to do something with that money. Appointing Gunn hasn''t exactly given me any confidence that you are going forwards.

Also, I wish to claim my rebate to signal my displeasure at the way the club is being run. I may choose to spend the money returned on NCFC, but I will choose how it''s spent.
It was good of Burnley to make that offer to their fans. It was before they thought they would be promoted!!!
So doesn''t that fact make their offer even more commendable?

The whole thing looks like one massive charity appeal.  Makes me sick when you think how much money of ours has been thrown away and wasted.

Don''t fall for it everybody.  Stick to what you''ve already paid.  Or give it to a worthier cause.

Sadly none of this is going to persuade me to give up my rebate. I acknowledge Mr Foulger''s no doubt sincere motives but I can''t wondering whether he would have coughed up a similar sized dollop of cash anyway. The re-appointment by the Club of Bryan Gunn is a big disappointment to me and shows a lack of ambition from a directionless Board and until that changes I cannot see how things will improve. It''s simply throwing good money after bad,
Everything I have said is true... you are just being a little jobsworth because you don''t have Ballsy''s balls?

I will hush my tongue now.

I agree that Pete should grow some balls, but for one reason pure and simple, and that is to ban you from here. Its long overdue.

Smudger has a certain way (lol!) but I think it would be a sad day for freedom of speech if he was banned.
No fan on here objects to giving money to the club, fans on here object to giving money to a board they disapprove of. If the board had run the club a little bit better over the last few years or at the very least appointed a proper manager this summer they wouldn''t need to beg now. Personally I hope everyone takes their rebate and puts it to one side for use (later)

So freedom of speech is dead in Norfolk then?

I thought our local press were supposed to publish and support what the fans of NCFC think?
No, freedom of speech is alive and well, but so is libel.
Since when has freedom of speech been alive and well on this message board? I''ve observed plenty of threads/posts, including some of my own, being deleted, and most of them were not libelous.

Having re-read the EEN ''plea'' it seems even worse the second time.  It is a piece of patronising cr*p in the same vein as the "Get behind the Canaries" campaign last season or whatever it was.  Yes, there is a lot of criticism at the moment, but it implies that the problems and solutions to all our ills lie simply with the supporters.

Why do they imply that the fans won''t be likely to get behind the team?  18,000 have renewed and there will be members going as well.  People aren''t going to walk away just like that.  People aren''t going to boo Gunn as soon as the first whistle goes (I don''t want him as boss but I''m not going to boo him).  Despite what people say, the majority of this message board will still be there or supporting from afar.  The fans raised the roof for the last few home games (Sheff Wed the possible exception) and turned out in big numbers away.  Rightly or wrongly, the criticism didn''t come until 30 minutes in at The Valley when all was lost and in the following days afterwards.  The fans have stuck by the club with incredible loyalty, yet all I feel is that we''re told, ""well, thanks for what you''ve done but its not enough".

Yes, I''m unhappy with the way things are, but I hate being told HOW to support the team by the local rag when there are so many other pressing bloody issues at the club.

Rant over.  Deep breaths!  [:@]

Think of it like this. What you are paying, less the rebate is what Div 3 football is worth. If you give your rebate to these people who have proved themselves useless with money in the past what happens next year when we are still in Div 3? Will they come back again and ask for a further 20% donation? Don''t bet against it - and don''t give them the money back. If we do get promotion whose shares are going to be worth more money? Exactly, so let them fund the return to where we should be and increase their share value in the process.

The problem is simple, 18000 season ticket sales do not generate enough revenue for a modern day football club, the team and facilities have to be subsidised by Advertising, sponsorship TV and sales. We all know the effects on these during an economic downturn so where does the extra come from?

ANY WILLING BILLIONIARE WISHING TO WASTE A FEW MILLION PLEASE PRESENT YOURSELF!!!

Supporters have to get real, they do nothing and they will suffer....Simple !!!!!

Supporters keep expecting directors to be charitable, yet on this board so called supporters will not give the dribbling of there noses without wanting something in return.

If you want to see this clubs demise just sit back and do NOTHING.... Moaning about it will get you NOTHING...Asking for Delia''s head will get you LESS.

Norwich City Football club needs its fans, the fans are key to the future of this club. How far down the supporters allow this club to go before taking action depends on them.

Norwich City football club are not alone in this and other clubs have also been looking for wealthy people to take control.

I said 14 months ago supporters needed to pull together and use their support to generate funds but alas most on here know better, don''t they?

So after almost 13 years of obsessive control, poor decision making and sheer belligerence when confronted with any degree of criticism, we are just meant to sit back and accept this remorseless slide to oblivion are we??

I couldnt give a damn about .....''the money'' - what I want is for The Cook to finally hold her hands up and resign from the Board and let others take over the day to day running and strategic decision making. Her shares?  She can do what she likes with them.

Regardless of your view on the merits or otherwise of the rebate it’s yet another cracking piece of writing.

We kick-off (sorry) with “But the path to redemption is illuminated today” – this sounds like a real “Road to Damascus” moment to me, a light flashed from upon high, and a voice told me not to claim my rebate. Thanks be to God and Amen.

Then we have the “Some fans disagreed with the decision to reappoint Bryan Gunn as manager” – technically correct, but I recall that the poll carried out showed a 50/50 split for and against. Personally speaking I know no more than a handful who thought he was a good appointment.

Following on with “If, and hopefully it will be a big if, things go from bad to worse, we can deal with the potential ramifications then”, neglecting to tell us that the ramifications will be that the transfer budget, which was swelled by the season ticket refund money, will have been blown on a bunch of players the new manager doesn’t want and some whopping severance payments for the failed management team.

And then the finale, and this was the one that was really worth waiting for, “We all long to hear the Canaries singing from the top of the Premiership”, - the sort of phrase my eight year old daughter would come up with on a bad day.

A desperately poor piece of writing in a leading article which was intended to sway the “floating voter” supporters back in favour of the giving up the season ticket rebate. Surely Archant could have come up with something better for an issue so important to NCFC?

I wonder will own up to writing it?

Nobody is spared from your obnoxious and arrogant attitude and your personal attacks. If I was senior to Pete at Archant then I would be encouraging him to cleanse the forum of you.

You could of course claim that you are a customer of this forum, as it does drive traffic to an adsense supported main site, but at the same time I bet you drive more traffic away from the forum then you attract.
Not according to Adam Aiken I don''t... and this was when everybody (even some of my allies if I have such a thing today) on it more more or less didn''t have a good word to say about me.

He claimed that I had the exact opposite effect - maybe why I am still here if I am as bad as you make out - which I do not believe I am as I am sure an ever growing number of posters who have now seen the light will agree.  [:P]

Hi City Angel,

There is loads going on behind the scenes at the Kitty, we have been working on lots of aspects that will make the site a major force online. The site is steadily strengthening and ageing which is important to what we have in store.

It''s important for all of us to focus on helping the club with a long term financial solution. This includes bringing new revenue streams and services that will be beneficial to the business community.

Supporters will see the new advances very soon.

The supporters have to learn that the days of wealthy backers is well and truly over as there is little personal satisfaction or reward for them. But this doesn''t mean that supporters have to sit back and do nothing. I know there are many negative people who are just after blood but they have no solution nor are they thinking about the consequences of not having Delia''s support especially as there are no other takers for her position.
