Similarities with Peter Grants Player Recruitment

Recommended Posts

Do you recall Peter Grants comments about - Not being able to recruit players for one reason or other?Having to resort to Scottish rejects was the root cause of his failure - Identifying the best of who you can afford is not the biggest stumbling block it is more of ‘manager appeal’.An overlooked impediment for new managers is that the promising prospective players will rightly choose to join teams with managers who have respect and credence established in the football fraternity as quite rightly they believe their careers will have a better chance of advancing. It just doesn’t help knowing Sir Alex or anyone one else of similar high blown stature, it’s more about if they know you. This is a good appointment for Brian, he has stepped on the first rung of the managerial ladder and can only get better with experience but at what cost to his beloved team? - Only time will tell and then it may well be too late.

Gunn has come in with no experience which is acceptable at division 3 level to see if he has what it takes to become a good manager. If we were a championship club looking to finish in the top 8 then he would be boxing above his weight. To be continued...

Explain to me how he has shown any similarities with Peter Grants player recruitment? He has signed one player so far, that player is an absolute gem. He cant sign anymore players until 1st July unless they are officially free agents already, which wouldnt give him much choice. Why dont you just wait until the first week of July to decide whether or not he has similarities with Grant.

I would rather he be like Grant than Roeder, at least we owned Grants squad.
Good point!! grant was a bad manager of players! but Gunn was roeders chief scout, so he has to take blame for some of the mess! i just hope he comes up with the goods!

Cheap jocks like Ross Mcormack who cost 125k. I would have a few of them.

And trying to say Gunn''s policy is the same as Grants is laughable. He hasn''t bought anyone for a start and Grant had a hell of a lot more money that Gunn will. Unless your a club with rich owners, the transfers are slowly receading as clubs are tightning the belts.
Gunn was roeders chief scout, so he has to take blame for some of the mess!
Why?If Gunn suggested players and these suggestions were ignored by Roeder (as we are lead to believe happened in a few cases such as Gow) - how is that Gunn''s fault?Even if Gunn had recommended a total pile of crap, it was Roeder''s responsibility to actually take a look and make the decision based on this recommendation, and if he still went ahead and signed a poor player, that says more about his managerial ability, than Gunn''s scouting ability. The buck stops with the manager - simple as.
