O.T.B.C 1 Posted April 23, 2009 Was at the pub in London Town on a leaving do, when me and my mate, who is a scum supporter, made the funniest comment ever. He stated that he has heard that Ipswich, if they boost the attendance to 40k, then they are 3rd on the list for world cup venues. There is more, he said that they have the best training ground facility outside Man Utd and Arsenal, that they have a btter ground than us and that Delia was a silent shareholder at Ipswich. I could not stop laughing, I love drunken conversations.Well it amused me. Mind you I have had a fair few pints of Denmark''s finest.
Bovril 277 Posted April 23, 2009 To be fair other then the ''better ground than us'' comment, I think the others could all be true especially the world cup venue...The FA has commented several times how ideally they would like to have a world cup stadium in the eastern area and increasing either carrow road or portman road would be the logical anwser
Nexus_Canary 1,270 Posted April 23, 2009
Delia was a silent shareholder at Ipswich.
That wouldnt surprise me to be honest
O.T.B.C 1 Posted April 23, 2009 I don''t doubt that the FA would like to have a game or two played in the East, that wasn''t the argument, he stated that as they have a very good ground, they would be below Wembley, Villa Park, Old Trafford and no one else. And do you really belive that Delia was a shareholder at Ipswich and this has never been reported any where? We are talking about a Delia who, until the mid nineties, was not a cooking superstar and therefore not that rich.
Mark Smith 0 Posted April 23, 2009 Yeah, and with their new CEO who was connected to the 2012 Olympic bid they''re pushing to be involved in that too. Wouldn''t be too much of a stretch of the imagination that they could be considered for a World Cup down the line somewhere, provided all this optimism turns into actual results. We''ve had plenty of false dawns ourselves over recent years.
? 20 Posted April 23, 2009 You all seem to be forgetting the fact that Portacabin Road is a rundown dump.If you really think the FA want a stadium like that, as opposed to shiny, albeit characterless stadiums such as Pride Park or The Stadium of Light, then you''re deluded. The Delia thing is idiocy of the type i''d only expect to find on the Pinkun forum. king canary 9,009 Posted April 23, 2009 I could name about 15 stadiums above Portaloo in the pecking order.
Branston Pickle 4,186 Posted April 23, 2009 Actually, the sad fact is that, crap ground that it might be, if they do want a stadium in the East for the WC bid then Portaloo Road is far better situated - not too far from London and with far better road links than Norwich. That is sadly a fact of life. But I frankly couldn''t care a toss - we probably won''t win the World Cup bid anyway, but even if we did I''m not sure that I care two hoots about some crappy games in a crappy group being played at my ground: sure as hell the England games would be held nowhere other than Wembley or Old Trafford. eldrich canary 0 Posted April 24, 2009 Sadly I also think that given the choice between Portaloo Rd and Carrow Rd the sensible option would be Portaloo becauase:a) it''s largerb) it is only an ~1hr out of London via trainc) It''s on the A12 so to can drive there from the south on dual carriagewayd) It''s on the A14?? so you can access it more easily from the west via dual carriagewaycompare that toCR- 2 hrs via train from LondonAccess via the A11 and A47, only holds 25k and you''d be silly to use CR.Sad but true. keatesy 0 Posted April 24, 2009 You seriously think that carrot road is better than our place!!! WOW it saddens me to think that dilusion could be this strong. Delias Tasty Nibblets 0 Posted April 24, 2009 You might at least want to put a picture of Carrow Road with the Jarrold Stand in there..leading me to think you''ve never been to our ground. You couldnt sell your own out for the derby game, everyone was too busy at home ''playing'' with their children, and designing new easy open bin lids. Graham Humphrey 13 Posted April 24, 2009 Nice pic of Portman Road on a typical match day.
