What do the board do?

Recommended Posts

Serious answers please (unless they''re really funny).Excuse the ignorance, but what exactly is the main role of each person on the board?  I know who they are, I know their title, but what is each member responsible for, who takes a salary (and how much?!) and how involved are each individual (Delia for example has books to write too...).  Do people hold ''the board'' as a whole responsible for the mess the club finds itself in, or are some people more responsible than others?  If there was a complete overhaul at the top, are there any members people would want to stay?Just trying to understand exactly what goes on, and maybe that will help me grasp what has gone wrong (perhaps). Thanks

Neil Doncaster is the Chief executive and holds a "MD" role where he is responsible for running everything club related on a day to day basis. Delia, foulger and other board shareholders all report to doncaster with their issues or requests for him to pursue.Munby is the spokesman, he will be the most direct member of the team. he will speak openly and transparently as well as chairing board meetings. he doesnt vote on issues unless theres a tie. then of course you have dept heads..who all work under doncaster.

yes essentially.delia and michael have passed the control (whilst still having power) to doncasterhe runs the club on a day to day basis, everything from budget to customers to groundsmen. he controls each department and designates tasks and ensure they are done.

Thanks MIA.  You don''t have to answer, but does that mean in your opinion that Doncaster is the main man responsible for the club''s problems (if you personally blame the board?).Also if Delia and Michael still have power, can they override Doncaster at all?  Is he under "employment" by them?

Much appreciated. I always thought it was a bit unfair the amount ''Doomcaster'' takes from certain quarters because I simply assumed he was the mouthpiece of the board. Now I can completely understand it.

How can Delia and Micky want a nice Norfolk club where everyone bleeds yellow and green when the bloke in charge of everything is a Hull supporter? [:S]

Yes he''s a club employee although he''s also been on the board for a couple of years now.  The board hire and fire the Chief Exec so they have the final  responsibility.

During Chase''s time he appointed himself Chief Exec as well as Chairman which was one of the problems.  Separating the two functions is a better option in theory but not in practice if the CE is so cosy with the board that they''ll never fire him.

i dont think he is completely at fault, not that im a board sympathiser. its down to each department to make sure they do their task efficiently, for example the ticket office was told by ND to sort the applications out, he delegated, they fecked up. it can even be down to individual people as people often think its purely down to neil doncaster, but it isnt. you could argue that its all delia''s fault as she and her board members tell neil doncaster what they want delegated and done. but you need a trust element in business, and i think the trust at upper level is far better than that at the lower levels (e.g players and minor staff)and yes delia smith can hire and sack doncaster ( but being a lawyer he probably has a good pay off clause)
Chairman is more involved in our case.
and munby is merely there to facilitate meetings and be a spokesperson, he has very little control over some aspects of the club,

Mr Munby is paid a salary of around £25,000 - including a bonus in cigarette coupons, swan vestas - and nicotine patches. He is occasionally wheeled out for AGMs, Raffle draws, Cheque presentations and some other stuff.

Mr Doncaster is paid in ''access all areas'' tickets for Sugababe and Girls Aloud concerts....and it also includes a paltry Â£180,000 spending money for Girls Aloud and Sugababe merchandise (T-Shirts, photographs, posters, magazines, life-size inflatable dolls of Cheryl and the Girls, CDs and DVDs etc).....

Until recently, ND was Commander in Chief of Eventguard - which was an army sworn to allegiance to the protection of the Sugababes and Girls Aloud whenever they were in East Angular doin'' their thang. Eventguard also suppressed the ''norty folk'' at Carrow Road if they tried to smuggle in contraband ie: Morrison''s munchies, non-cardboard or cat''s pi$$ flavoured lager - sausage rolls that don''t require a packet of Viagra to stop them drooping, and pies that don''t go ''PoP!'' and scald the skin then cauterise the tongue....

Now as a ''regular guy'' the CE just walks about with a wry and smug grin on his boat race, answers questions with a question and regularly sits at his computer in his plush office - playing ''Call of Duty'' "Take that you muvver!" and ''The Sims ( "I''ll put a hotel there"-''Carrow Rd edition'').  On match-days he stands transparently outside the stadium talking down to fans, although it is recommended that those wishing to speak to him arrive early - as he spins and bores so much just before kick-off, that only his head is left visible above the pavement. His groupies then extract him from his hole, dust him down - and carry him to the upper Barclay for the game.

In truth, the CE, is actually only on this earth to irritate the hell out of me.

The rest? They just do as they''re told by Delia n'' Mick.....

Hope that helps....

Classic Mello, well summed up. Mr Doncaster is now found on matchdays at the top of the South Stand (standing for matches). My good friend has a seat there and has been known to give him a piece of her mind on occasions. She shares the same opinion of him as your good self.

Monday give him a wave from your Werther''s pen, there''s a good chap...
