Yorkshire Canary 118 Posted April 12, 2009 Unless your club is one of the big 3 or 4 the cost of players and staying in the premiership is a bit like what has just happened to the banks a timebomb waiting to go off. Look at the bottom of the championship now bottom 3 all premiership clubs in the past 4 years plus others like Palace, Watford and Barnsley not too healthy either. Remember others too like Bradford, Swindon and Oldham. The only way for smaller clubs to play the premiership game is to go up with a championship squad keep a championship wage structure and come down with no debt loads of cash and lucrative parachute payments

And that`s not including the multi-million pound profit on players in that season (money received for players less money spent). The "all the parachute/transfer income was blown on ridiculous player wages" argument is a baseless myth.

canaryfan68 0 Posted April 12, 2009 In my opinion its not down to the premiership as you only have to look at WBA as they seem to be run in a sensible way. Where are problem is at the top of the club and the running of it it, for some time we have been looking at Charlton as a role model until they started to self destruct. Why does the board have no idea how to run this club apart from into the ground! For too long now we have had the same amount of debt when we should have been chipping away with it,unless we don''t want to get rid of it because it acts as a way of keeping potential suitors away from buying the current regime out!
