A little insider info

Recommended Posts

I spoke to someone who knows the players yesterday and got told a few interesting (although mostly unsurprising) facts.

The board canvassed opinion from the players before letting Roeder go. They spoke to Fozzy, Adam Drury, Doc and Rusty. Of those only Fozzy was totally on message, the others were apparantly just honest and reported that all was not well and morale was poor with little sign of anything that would change soon.

Sadler was universally disliked, and general opinion was that he might have all the coaching badges in the world but he had zero people skills. Stephenson on the other hand was actually quite popular and thought to be a good coach and person and the players were surprised that he lost his job.

Lee Clark was very popular, and his departure was seen by the players as the straw that broke the camels back. He was the bridge between Roeder and the players and Sadler made no effort with the players whatsoever which is where it all fell apart at the end. Some of the players suggested that Clark would be a good replacement for Roeder after he had gone, but this was never pursued by the board as far as the players know.

Fozzy and Matty Pattison were the big fans of Roeder on the playing staff, and whilst Fozzy kept his comments professional when Roeder went, Matty Patty let it be known that he thought the dismissal was a huge mistake. He was also hacked off that his opinion wasn''t sought before a decision was made (??? Yeah, because it''s always the half-naked drunk driver who gets arrested at the training ground whose opinion you hold key!!!) and apparantly became a pain in the arse at Colney, whinging to all and sundry, which is why he has fallen out of favour with the management. They''re keen to loan him out at the moment because the morale is generally very good and they don''t want him bringing others down.

The new management team are actually doing reasonably well in the players opinions. Gunn is a popular Dad figure always ready for a chat and an arm round the shoulder. Butterworth is seen as the main disciplinarian but a fair chap, and Crooky is the most passionate and the one most involved with implementing tactics, and the players enjoy training with him. Dixie is not a regular at Colney and the players have barely seen him, but he is often on the phone to the other three from his home in the Midlands.

Fozzy''s meltdown was, unsurprisingly, just motivated by his relationship with the fans. Apparantly he''d been getting more and more upset by the negative comments as weeks went by and Gunny was already concerned that he might boil over at some point and get sent off during a game. When he stormed down the tunnel it was just to get away from the crowd because the players had been read the riot act in the wake of Hughes'' attempted punch-up a couple of seasons back regarding giving stick back to fans, and he didn''t want to end up doing similar. Chippy and Butts took him to task about it after the game whilst Gunny, although siding with his coaches, tried to be peacemaker but Fozzy spat the dummy totally with all of them. The players were apparantly not surprised and thought that the whole stuation was an accident waiting to happen anyway, since Fozzy had been increasingly uptight for weeks. He''s respected around the club, but the players are happy enough that Doc''s now captain.

The general opinion is that things are now moving in the right direction, but that until we know our fate the players all feel a little unsettled about their futures. However Gunny has already spoken to them about this and put it in the context that all the other clubs at the bottom will feel similarly, and that our team spirit is now better than the other clubs and that gives us a much better chance of surviving, which is something the players have apparantly taken to heart.

Thanks for the info. As you say, mostly unsurprising stuff, which is why you will hopefully avoid the usual cries of "bullshit" that usually greet this sort of post! Sounds like morale is good, which is essential in our situation.

[/quote]After Clark left i emailed Doncaster to tell him theyd made a massive mistake and that the wrong man left Carrow Road. Things would have been very different now had Roeder been sacked earlier and Clark put in charge. Oh well.Excellent post tho, good work.

Interesting stuff and very believable.  It was certainly noticeable that we tailed off further once Clark had left.

it pretty much says it all really ,

i think if or should i say when the season end and we know where we are, hopefully the championship , this club needs stability with players and manager , you cant exspect anything like a fantastic season when you had the likes of idiot in charge , that is pretty much what i heard too , except if roeder had been here in jan i dont think for one minute croft would be here.

i really hope gunn gets the job , i feel he deseves it , i cant see how the players all feel unsettled , most of them are loan players anyway , so they wont be here next season .

the players are good enough , im sure if they were all our players and gunny was perminent things would be alot better .

im sure most people in thier jobs would be unsettled if people keep comming in and out almost every other week , i know players move clubs alot but i fail to see how any player can grow at norwich and with norwich with how it has been ,

lets hope our future is a lot brighter next season , i for one am really looking forward to the summer and putting this season down as a nightmare, we are a better club than that .

Interesting read. Thanks. It''s good to show some people that the players are actually human and capable of the same ''complex'' emotions that the fans demonstrate.

It''s just a shame that anyone attempting to post anything worthy of note on this forum has to spend the next few days ducking accusations of lying, creative writing or being a binner.

Sky Sprts News isn''t th only source of info re. football.

I really enjoyed their 2 hour build up to the live draw from the Quarters today, followed by their 3 hour pundit-fest afterwards. Now THATS news!

i heard stuff rather differently.i heard that NO-ONE liked either stephenson or Sadler (sadler was there for 3 weeks mind). Stephenson and sadler werent fully qualified anyway.the players all got on very well with Clark, and are happy for him if nothing else.and all apart from : fozzy, pattison, omozusi, nelson and otsemobor liked roeder.also. the wage bill needs to be cut by 4m for next season. with the high earners of fozzy, drury, pattison all very likely to go.marshall could go as well if we cant drop the wage bill elsewhere.

On the good side, our present management team seems to be doing a good job and the board did the right thing by asking the players about Roader.
