Gibbo 131 Posted March 10, 2009
Man, and at the time we thought it was bad.....
Was thinking just that while watching that... obviously the best bit of the season, but it puts into perspective how much attacking talent has been siphoned out of the team :-(There were moments there where you could almost have been watching prem football, long way from that now... ncfc90 0 Posted March 10, 2009 A fit Darren Huckerby and Dean Ashton back please?
nutty nigel 7,902 Posted March 10, 2009 Yes we''d give anything for that now, strange that so many spent nearly all that season calling for the managers head.

If only Clingan and Francis were in the engine room too. What a team!
BlyBlyBabes 0 Posted March 10, 2009
Yes we''d give anything for that now, strange that so many spent nearly all that season calling for the managers head.
Do you really have to insert your fixation with laundering and blow-drying Worthington into every possible thread?I presume one ulterior motive is to protect Delia Smith from her critics by implying that it was those darned Worthy Outers amongst the City supporters who forced Delia to act against her will - but in the interests of self-preservation - to fire your hero wnen he failed miserably to meet the requirements of that ''fan-enforced'' (in your view one suspects) ultimatum way back in 2006: and just a smidgeon before you started posting on this board. And but for those pesky fans we''d presumably still have Ashton, Hucks and your Worthy, eh?Of course, I could be wrong, but .................................One love.OTBC
Hog 0 Posted March 10, 2009 Watching that was like watching the glory years! Even though at the time it was considered a poor season! We have sunk so low so fast and I for one doubt we will ever see players like Ashton and Hucks here again. [:''(]

Jules 0 Posted March 10, 2009 Wow! Just notice how many goals were scored from around the edge of the penalty area and by recognised strikers! We had players with the confidence to have a crack. Far too many times this season we passed around the front of the opposition defence without striking or tried to walk it into their six yard box as if we are Arsenal. Now I''m bloody depressed. There''s no way out of this mess outside of a complete miracle. Other teams around us seem to been able to find another gear which is leaving us and Charlton increasingly cast adrift. TheCardinal 0 Posted March 10, 2009 Errgggh. How I complained about that team. Carl Robinson I thought was the worst midfielder in NCFC history. Then Fozzy came along. Andy Hughes - how we all moaned about him! Even he had more ability than 90% of the team we have today. Then of course there''s Hucks (at his best), Ashton, Earnie, and Johansson. Why we never made his signing permanent I don''t know. Instead, we got Peter bloody Thorne. This club has slipped so far from even then. It''s very, very sad. JJ 0 Posted March 10, 2009 I think we''re looking at that season through rose tinted glasses. I posted this elsewhere but it was a poor season and the 9th place masqueraded the fact that we were dreadful away from home (remember the games at Luton, QPR, Derby and Preston?) plus it covered up some very poor and lucky home victories. It was the real beginning of the decline and even decent playes like Hucks, McVeigh, Safri, etc had a hit and miss season (Doherty was player of the year). It was merely accelerated that summer by deciding to (a) keep Worthington and (b) having to decided to keep him, not give him any money to improve the squad. We pretty awful now, but that doesn''t suddenly turn players such as Hughes, Robinson, etc into good ones. No other managers best finishing position has been higher than Worthy''s worst. You are quite happy to continually harp on about history when it suits your pathetic agendas. The finishing positions in a different age and different circumstances spring to mind. I would suggest the comparison between Worthy and those who managed under the same constraints is entirely relevant.
Buncey 1 Posted March 11, 2009 Fantastic memories. I think it''s gonna be a while before we see a set of talent anywhere near that bunch of lads. Such a shame. I''d murder for ol'' lil McVeigh.
