Marshall - 7 Decent save or two although almost done a traditional kick mess up..Otsemebor - 7 Good attacking threat made a VERY big mistake but made up for it by back tracking and out pacing their striker.Doc - 8 Solid today did well with shacks.Shacks - 9 Very good defending today, Came off due to injury?Bertrand - 8 Had a few attempts on goal and some descent defending was kind of scared he would bring a player down in the box though :PCroft - 8 Good attacking, crossing and passing today. Did feel their fall back out matched him for pace though.Clingon - 7 Good passing today and good back tracking to help defend a couple mistakes by the defendersRussell - 8 Good control of the ball, defending and attacking today help set up some nice attacking threats.Hoolahoop - 9 Did very well with crossing in skilling and general attacking :)Mooney - 6 1/2 Did ok with his home debut, scored but was offside quite alotGow - 10 MOTM by far, we HAVE to buy him he was immense. Took the ball past like 3 or 4 of them alot of the time. I think he thought it was like taking candy from a baby :)Subs:McDonald - 8 Scored the goal with ease but not much else their as he wasn''t on for long.Leijer - 6 Was abit puzzled why he came on, I thought it was a bad decision unless shacks was injured. Bad start missing most headers but got betterCarney - Not enough to mark!
Bit harsh on Marshall?
Well to describe some of those saves as "decent" is just bizarre.

"Brilliant" would be more like it.

3 world class saves from Marshy and i knew ppl would say about his one fault! An 8 for me.

Russell would be a 6/7. Worked hard but often bypassed.

Mooney 8 - Offside a lot but because of his intelligent runs. Looked sharp in the box and link up play with Gow was great.

When Hoolers is playing like that you just need to give him the ball! He was on fire.....

And as for Gow....where do i start......Immense!

I bet Delia is panicing........Gow, Mooney and Cody could all cost us! The latter is prob down to goal and apps bonuses the first 2 may well need to be bought!

Marshall - 8 - Couple of absolutely class saves.

Otsemobor - 6 - Made a few mistakes, but recovered well.

Doc - 7 - Had a shaky start to the match, but had a good second half.

Shacks - 8 - Looked very solid in the first and only half he played, won everything in the air, hope he isn''t out for too long.

Bertrand - 8 - Best i''ve seen Bertrand play for ages, whipped a couple of crosses in and defended superbly.

Croft - 8.5 - Just for sheer effort, outstanding.

Clingan - 6 - I thought both the centre mids were slightly off the pace, Clingan made a few more mistakes than usual.

Russell - 6 - Didn''t really notice him until the last 15 - 20 mins of the match.

Hoolahan - 8.5 - Superb performance from the little man, linked mifield and attack brilliantly.

Mooney - 7.5 - Did his best to miss the open goal, but at least it went in. Good movement off the ball.

Gow - 9 - Awesome. His first touch passes kept the attacking moves flowing nicely, and his dribbling was a joy to behold.

Subs

Cody - 8 - Showed good composure infront of goal, and had a Huckerby-esque run towards the end.

Leijer - 6 - Looked ok

Carney - Not long enough to judge.

Lets not get too carried away. The best perforemance  in a long while.  Two key differences were that the defence moved the ball much faster and more directly upfield where we we had 4 players willing to harry to chase a ball down,  with the two young strikers being particularly impressive,  and both goals coming through that direct long ball approach.   However we remain ponderous and lightweight in the middle and when the ball went that way we were least effective.

However the last real positive was that we had every player giving real effort most of the time, a real boon :-)  and cause for some optimism come saturday,  even if I do retain real fear whether can be consistent enough to play like this two games running and finally add some consistency and not leave me feeling that tonight is another of those games highlighting why the problem of possible is with the manager and players attitudes and approach than that of the board.

Marshall 8  2 fabulous saves at key points of the game kept us ahead, and took some crossed,  at his best despite some wayward distribution

Ots 5 remains a liability,  but when the ball was stolen from his toe while he pondered he did at least wake up fast enough to recover.  Better but not good

Bertrand 7  Made grounds look like a novice,  a revelation today and back towards his best

Shacks 6..5  Did well then took a knock

Doc 7 SUperbly solid  - earning a genuinely warm ''one ginger pele'' rendition

Croft 7.5  Put the man in centre midfield instead of either of our current buffoons.  10 times their energy committment and ability to tackle.  Shame he cant cross,  so many attempts and still not even a threat :-( If all our players had his effort with their ability we would not be where we are today

Clingan & Russell 5.5  Better committment today but both are bypassed to easily by opponents and stifle only our attacking play when they are involved by taking pace OUT of the game at all times and going sideways.  Not good enough - but did not matter today.

Hoolahan 6 Like croft more energy and effective defensive work than his ''defensive'' midfield partners but more subdued than he has been

Mooney 7 Helped us defend from the front with good energy movement and pace,  and pinched that crucial first goal,  although he seemed to try to miss putting it very high into the empty net with perhaps a little too much power!! Keeps hsi place come sat

Gow 8  MOTM  Did have a couple of quiet and anonymouys spells but like Mooeny chased every over the top ball and offered genuine movement.  Was suprisingly good at keeping the ball and dribbled at defenders direct to goal and scared them.  Excellent ball for the second goal.

Subs

Leijer 6.5 looked composed as shacks replacement and did not put a foot wrong

Carney too little to assess

MacDonald -7 continued mooneys good work and took the step down in level well finishing well 1 on 1 with their keeper - and for once giviing me confidence that he was  going to do so :-)
