Letter of Apology to the Fans - Draft

Recommended Posts

Letter of Apology to the Fans Already DraftedFor media  release in the within the next week or so.It will explain how a combination of bad luck and the current financial crisis in local and global economies played a major part in the clubs misfortunes. It will explain how the changing face of English football disadvantages the minor self financed clubs like Norwich. The following  sentences may be included:Yes we acknowledge making mistakes in the past but the decisions at the time were made with the best interests of the club in mind.Everyone connected to the club is truly saddened and hurt by the clubs temporary setback nevertheless we are more determined than ever to turn the club around for next season. We feel deeply for the fans and understand why they may feel disappointed right now, nevertheless they can rest assured that everyone here is passionate about  the club and will work relentlessly behind the scenes to bring back our championship status. The search for new investment and additional income streams is ongoing. Our commitment to developing our talented  youth squad at last shows real promise and we believe it may bring dividends next season. There is an overall  feeling of  optimism here about our future because of this. The training facilities at Colny are amongst the best in the country. The following  sentences may not be included:To repay the loyalty of our best players we are working hard to find them  new homes with better financed clubs, that they may restart their careers next season and hopefully rekindle their ambitions. The remaining players who cannot be retired through ill health or age related retirement will be retained to fight on next season.A special thank you for those of you who responded to our ''Rally Around the Flag''  call.A special thank you for those of you who responded to our appeal to sentiment  ''Not the cheap option statement''.A special thank you for those of you who responded to our ''Let’s keep it all in the family'' campaign. A sincere thank you to followers and fans for their support throughout our disappointing but partly successful season. Successful in as much that financial losses have been strictly limited and  the curriculum vitae for running a tight ship remains untarnished.Successful in dismissing everyone else who may have been seen as being culpable for our dysfunctional  strategy. We have been successful in keeping the  jobs for of all the Norwich regulars here and after the predictable commotion has faded away we hope to jog along again in the well trodden, time proven, Norwich way.We did all this whilst keeping the vast majority of the fan base on board, admittedly we are helped a little by the fact that our supporters have little else at professional level to cheer along on a Saturday afternoon given that professional rugby and cricket is not encouraged  in Norfolk owing to the costs and overheads in promoting the ''Norwich is a Fine City'' campaign. We did all this whilst without taking any serious risk of financial over commitment.Mediocrity is what we must learn all to live with in order to safeguard  the company’s  net worth and of course our jobs.

What is more worrying than relegation itself is the clubs  negative momentum which is several seasons old now, accelerating and shows no signs of relenting.Relegation this season is simply one painful symptom of the underlying cause, sterile enterprise, bordering on malaise. If a  solution to all this does exist  then  battle cries to the effect of ''Onward Christian Soldiers'' and appeals for unity and patience are years beyond their sell by dates if ever they worked at all.It is this canned artificial response to our crisis that hurts me most and to see it promulgated amongst supporters is repugnant.

"Mistakes have been made - we know that."

The first first predicted cliche egg has been laid

What are the odds for
"WE WILL LEARN FROM OUR MISTAKES"
Before the end of the season.

'' We have learned lessons'', is another  popular candiate for inclusion.
Common interpretation from mealyspeak to plain English:
We claim absolution from any real blame therefore righteous exclusion from penalty or punishment for any incompetance, ineptidude, abject failure or multiple errors of judgement which may or may not be subsequently uncovered.

Who ever would wish to be the public spokesman for the club, not me.
There is no satisfaction or pride whatsoever in aiming outrageous brickbats at the clubs most vulnerable Aunt Sallies, whilst hiding in relative anonymity, conversely it has to be said  that a culture of low attainment, zero risk, and pitifully unimaginative initiatives has become the accepted defacto standard there whilst at the same time providing comfortable lifestyles for some.

What is more worrying than relegation itself is the clubs  negative momentum which is several seasons old now, accelerating and shows no signs of relenting.
Relegation this season is simply one painful symptom of the underlying cause, sterile enterprise, bordering on malaise.
If a  solution to all this does exist  then  battle cries to the effect of ''Onward Christian Soldiers'' and appeals for unity and patience are years beyond their sell by dates if ever they worked at all.
It is this canned artificial response to our crisis that hurts me most and to see it promulgated amongst supporters is repugnant.
