Pre-Match Warm-Up and training

Recommended Posts

Having trekked up to Wolves on Tuesday night I noticed the training and warm up looked much better with Gunn and the new management team in place than it has done previously.

Butterworth had the centre halves in the middle of the pitch doing jumping and heading drills. Crook had the Midfielders and full backs doing possession drills to one side. Tommy Wright was taking care of the keepers putting in some powerful crosses for them to take (and he can''t half smash A volley from the edge of the box) and the forwards were left to carry out some running drills and basic stretching. For the last few minutes the whole team were lining up on the edge of the box and smashing lay-off shots at the keeper.

This looked so much more professional than some of the previous regimes where the players had been left to their own devices or had spent the whole period jogging across the pitch.

That sounds like an exact description of the warm up I used to watch every-other week back in the good old days when Crook, Gunn and Butterworth were on the team sheet.  It worked then... The icing on the cake will be when players try to chip onto the cross bar as they go in, and Marshall pretends to head the cross bar on his way out.
