Yes. This is why ITV should not be allowed to screen sport.
Agreed, the technology they use in the studio is amazingly $hit as well! The commentary is annoying. GURR!

ITV should never have been allowed to show football ever again after the football league fiasco. And tonight’s balls up just reaffirms that.

I know its OT but why did ITV just go into an ad break with 3 minutes of ET to go and then managed to miss an effing goal!!

Because it''s a contracted ad break and they had paid the premium money for the timing?[;)]

Had pretty much given up on the game (it looked 0-0 from the off) but can''t believe that happened.

ITV are real schoolboys when it comes to any football coverage - how Matt Smith and Andy Townsend get anywhere near professional media is beyond me, and that was just pathetic - be sure for them to lose coverage for this competition in seasons to come.

Plenty of time to applaud and laugh at the imploding red Scousers for me!  Sorry you guys missed it, it was a (deflected) peach from the young lad and no more than they deserved! I know I should hate Everton for the whole 80s thing and the ''fat/black b*stard'' furore, but tonight Liverpool were so poor that anything other than a win for the Toffees would have been just wrong!

And what''s the first ad - BT "Isn''t it annoying when you lose connection"......

Followed by an interview with the goalscorer in what looks like a steam room which they televise halfway through then cut off early.

Terrible.
And again! They''ve gone straight from "Compare the meerkat.com!" to Dan Gosling going on about his winner, awful!
They cut off the meerkat advert? That''s just unforgiveable!!!

I didn''t miss it (there was no problem on ITV HD). And from looking around at forums, it seems various different regions were affected differently. Some missed it, some didn''t.

ITV are just clueless when it comes to football, well any sport really i suppose!

This, as CA said was one of the funniest things i''ve seen, 3 minutes to go and they go to an Add break and return with Everton celebrating, Priceless.

Perhaps, it was Benitez trying to rewind the sale of Keane when he saw Gerrard injured, Torres kicked to pieces and the brilliace of Babel trying to get him a goal!

ITV though, Steve Ryder, what qualifications does he have to be the broadcasters football anchorman, I''d take Lineker anyday! Then there is the Townsend & earle as pundits, it gets better doesnt it...ironically the saving grace is the advert breaks, meaning you dont have to hear them for the whole of half tme!!

The FA Cup highlights package is Dross, and then there''es Matt Smith; the definition of Smug, Charmless, and just plain annoying rolled into one!

Plase give up on Football ITV, Please....whatever next, making a bid for Wimbledon, then taking a break on championship point or deciding its time to compare the meerkat as Lee westwood has a put for the ryder cup....

The more I think about it, the funnier it is.  The cock-up provided more talking more points than the game, it left lots of Everton (and ultimately Liverpool) fans unhappy, and gave us something we can all agree on for a change! [:D]

This event also offended me, so I decided to complain. The address viewerservices@itv.com, and if your bored like me drop them a line. My email:-

To whom it may concern, and Andy Townsend,

As a final year university student time is of the essence, there are deadlines to meet and exams to revise for. However on the evening of the 4th February, I found myself up for a bit of procrastination. So I decided to watch your coverage of the FA cup-tie between Everton and Liverpool.

I did not foresee the dreadful 118minutes of football that would follow, if I had, I most certainly would have made some other evening plans, such as watching paint dry or even worse watching the latest instalment of Dancing on Ice. However I feel I cannot blame your cooperation for the poor standard of football, as the blame squarely lays at the feet of David Moyes’s revolutionary boring 4-6-0 formation and the undeniable fact that Rafa has indeed ‘cracked up’ Glenn Roeder style.

There is, unfortunately, one minor issue I would like to raise. In the 118th minute of this forgettable Merseyside derby, your coverage inexplicably, in the middle of play, cut to adverts. At first I blamed the home brew I was drinking, next I thought I’d sat on the remote, but no I was indeed watching Kris Marshall advertising a well-known telecom company.

It was at the time I was considering switching to BT’s new broadband service when my housemate raised the valid point what if someone had indeed broken the deadlock, of course they wouldn’t I confidently replied. But guess what, just moments later I found myself tucking into a nice dose of humble pie. We were graced with images of Dan Gosling celebrating a dramatic, last minute of extra time, merseyside derby, FA cup 4th round, winning wonder goal….which….er…..we missed.

Let me just spend some time putting this, the mother of all cock up’s, into prospective. Let us imagine ourselves, unfortunetly, watching the 2009 Xfactor final, Dermot is in the middle of the dramatic drawn out pause, when we cut to Kris Marshall advertising BT, a few moments later we cut to a scene of Alexandra Burke (I had to find her name on google already) laying on the floor celebrating a victory which the viewer had missed. It is unbelievable isn’t it?

Well it happened, and I cannot comprehend this ‘technical fault’, nor understand how a cooperation of your size can allow this to happen. I literally cannot believe what just happened to me and to everyone watching the game. But wait here is what really takes the biscuit. In your apology at the end of the show, you apologised IF we had missed the goal. There is no IF about it, can I inform the people working at the Independent Television cooperation, we ALL missed that goal.

Ironically with my opening sentence I should not be wasting my time writing a pointless complaint, but hopefully the effort I have gone through to write this complaint alone, conveys my anger and dismay at this unbelievable ‘technical’ fault.

I understand you cannot repay the 2hours I invested in your coverage, but view this as constructive criticism. May I suggest that next time you show a live sporting occasion, don’t cut to that annoying BT advert at the most crucial stage.
