putting us on par with the likes of Villa or Evertonthere''s 2 prices for footballers these days, sale value, and actual value. I.E, it''d take at least £25m for Santa Cruz to be prized away, but he''s only really worth £10mso in terms of sale value, i was lyk 5 in that year, and only just into footy, so i can''t be too accurate, but given that we were a relatively small team for a top 3 side, but all our players were happy and thatGunn -£7m Same as the likes of Carson, that fella Rangers have said will cost £7mCulverhouse - £5m solid but not spectacularBowen - £12m think BridgeButterworth -£5m same as CulverhousePolston -£6m - if gary cahill''s worth it, then...Fox - £15m - think BentleyGoss -£10m - wasn''t quite as good as them marquee goals show him to be, but still very goodCrook -£20m - think Arteta price, and then add premium for his EnglishnessPhillips -£5m - decent forward going playerSutton - £25m - Same as santa cruz, for the leagues top scorer, early on in his career, with no desire to leave yetRobins - £7m - thinking Fraizer Campbell as a comparisonEadie - £10m real potential, could be a top player if he stays free of injuries, think Adam Johnson, who is liked with Real MadridEkoku - £7m was that 4 the young lad scored against Everton?...Newman - £5m see Culverhouse and Butterworthdamn we were good at the wrong point 10-15 years too early!

NCFC would have sold, and still would sell, at under value.

The way I remember it...

Gunn £3M

Culverhouse £2.75M

Bowen £5.25

Buterworth £4M

Polston £4M

Fox £7M

Goss £6M

Crook £8M

Phillips £5.5M

Sutton £10M

Robins £5M

Compared with the value of the team today is enough to make you cry!    [:''(]

The other interesting thing about that team is that it contained no foreign imports and (Robins aside) was built around core of players picked up cheaply from lower division clubs, reserve teams or a thriving youth set up all with a real hunger to make a name for themselves.

How times have changed...

I think you might all be undervaluing Sutton.Remember, when we sold him for £5M it was the most expensive transfer in English football...

What is interesting about this if you look at what is the players are doing now. Gunn, Butterworth and Crook are the best choices.

Fox is a non-league manager.

Polston a personal trainer.

Culverhouse a assistant at Colchester.

Eadie and Goss are working for the club.

Bowen assistant at Man City.

Sutton not currently involved in football and Robins manager of Rotheringham.

Therefore the only other contender for team Glenn would be Culverhouse. He lacks the experience of Butterworth.

Funny this, a really great team and the best time for us city fans but apart from fox and sutton the others did not do anything to note at any other clubs. just goes to show what a good manager and good team sprit can do.that side was built over years, and that dont seem to happen anymore.

I think thats a great point! For all the money we have made over the years, most people have never reached the performance they had when they were with us.

Fox, Gordon, Townsend, Newsome, Robins, Ward, Ekoku, Reeves.....feel free to add some more!

Great side.

Also shows we had a scouting network and a youth set up to be proud of then!

Mind you, the latter was working for us very well until the Academy rules and regulations stopped the flow.

Gunn-from Aberdeen reserves
Culverhouse-from Tottenham reserves
Bowen-fringe player, at best, at Tottenham.
Buterworth-fringe player at Forest
Polston-fringe player at Tottenham
Fox-from youth set up
Goss-from youth set up
Crook-fringe player at Tottenham
Phillips-bought for £550''000 from Coventry, club record at the time!
Sutton-from youth set up
Robins-bought for £800''000 from Man Utd-£800''000! In 1992!! Nearly 17 years ago!*

According to Money Sorter that £800''000 would be the equivalent of us shelling out about £1.6 Million on one player today!

As if!

Mind you, what would it buy you now, when you consider Carlton Cole (who used to be regularly linked with us!) is supposedly the subject of an £8 million enquiry from Tottenham at the moment!

Think the same-albeit with an exception or two-applies to that brilliant Leeds site that got to the Champs League semi''s...

Paul Robinson -didn''t do so well at Tottenham and farmed out to Blackburn.

Danny Mills- eventually left the club thinking he was "Mr Big Time" and scuffed around, going from club to club afterwards.

Ian Harte- played for a small club in Spain, didn''t work out when he went to Sunderland, now looking for another club.

Jonathan Woodgate-in and out at Newcastle, struggled at Real Madrid, fairly obscure at Boro, now building career again at Spurs.

Rio Ferdinand-the exception!

Oliver Dacourt-OK, maybe another exception, did well in Italy, now linked with some English clubs again. Good player.

Harry Kewell-had miserable time at Liverpool, now in Turkey, but his star has faded somewhat.

Alan Smith-didn''t work out at Man Utd and certainly isn''t at Newcastle, who are desperate to flog him!

Mark Viduka-Took an injury to Boro'', has struggled since at Newcastle.

Erik Bakke-no idea what happened to him!

Lee Bowyer-another who thought he''d made it-Newcastle, West Ham-no joy, now at Birmingham.
