Norwich are ready to turn back the clock to replace Glenn Roeder, who was sacked yesterday.

The Canaries want exboss Nigel Worthington to become interim manager and perform a short-term rescue act to keep them in the Championship. They hope his commitments as Northern Ireland boss will not prevent him from performing a dual role.

If the Irish FA veto the move the club will turn to Bruce Rioch, who was in charge between 1998 and 2000. Rioch is available to start work immediately after leaving Danish club Aalborg in October.

Worthy was in charge at Carrow Road for six years before being dismissed in 2006. He won the Championship title in 2004 and still lives in Norfolk.

Aidy Boothroyd, a former youth coach at Norwich, is also available after being sacked by Watford.

Fans called for his head and an angry mob stormed the main entrance to protest. Roeder''s wife and daughter were ushered out of a side entrance as he locked his players in the dressing room for more than an hour.

Coaches Paul Stephenson and Adam Sadler also had their contracts terminated.

Former goalkeeper Bryan Gunn is set to take charge of the team for Saturday''s home clash with Barnsley.
