Jamie Cureton - A Prime Example Of Roeder's Ineptness

Recommended Posts

Wes HoolahanDavid Bell  ( in recent weeks)Jon OtsemoborRyan BertrandMark Fotheringhamand finally and most of all Jamie Cureton. All these players last season were on top form. This season they all look shadows of there former selves. Except now for Jamie Cureton, who judging by his goal yesterday, which if you havent seen it log onto Virginmedia right now, for it is a sublime finish reminiscent of a man who seems to be relishing being away from Roeder''s man management. And there are others, namely the rest of the Norwich squad, with the exception of Croft, Clingan and Doherty, who are obviously the kind of players that are not affected by Roeder''s management style, thank god.Cureton has always been a confidence player, like a lot of strikers, and as such needs a certain kind of management style, the Harry Rednapp, Mourinho style. Roeder not only is failing big time to get the best out of his players, but is actually sending there performance level the other way, slowly ebbing away players confidence to a point where there shadows of there former selves, as Cureton was. The fact that he''s scoring again proves he wasnt finished and proves that Roeder simply is a poor manager. End of.

come off it........... cureton was shot to bits before we bought him. He had some shockers last season and was hardly top form............ and the guy has never played the same in a yellow shirt as he had with all the other clubs.YOUR JUST JUMPING ON THE LETS GET ROEDER OUT BANDWAGON.Give it a rest, you can''t change manager every 12 months.

How does this theory that Roeder destroyed Jamie Cureton fit in with the fact that in three months playing for Grant JC scored four goals and in six months playing for Roeder JC scored ten goals? This clearly shows a 50% strike rate improvement under Roeder to me despite (or maybe bacause) Roeder starting him from the bench more frequently..
No, no and no.Firstly Cureton scored 16 odd goals last season for a team in turmoil at times at the bottom of the league. Yep he missed some sitters, but i dont care. He scored 16 odd goals. Nuff said. Job done. And Cureton was shot to bits before we bought him? Before we bought him he had just finished the leagues top scorer mate. And secondly jumping on the Roeder out bandwagon? Hardly, ive wanted rid of em since the Huckerby debacle. I made up my mind then and i wasnt wrong. The guy plain and simple is just not a very good manager.
Cureton scored 16 odd goals, alright not top form but your nit picking. And Fotheringham WAS on top form, he was one of the reasons we went on the unbeaten 13 game run, that coincided exactly with his return to the team, and from then on the games in between he missed, we lost. No coincidence ploddy.

We were a shambles under Grant and were creating 0 chances on goal.

have to agree with barclayman here, Cureton was top scorer last year! & Roeder has shown he is not a good manager, I kept saying give the guy a chance but he has shown he is not up to the job at this stage

A 50% strike rate improvement...... Hang on?!To me the answer is clear, but it''s definitely not the one you claim it to blatantly be. To me that shows nothing but minimal improvement (taking into account the period of time these examples appear to be in i have absolutely no idea how your coming up with 50%), and bearing in mind the chances and service he was getting up front under Roeder daunted that of which he received under Grant, i don''t think you can claim there has been any improvement at all.Truth is that ever since Grant went out of his way to publicly criticise Cureton for taking too many chances when oppertunities arose Jamie has never been the same. Cureton thrives upon taking awkward and unlikely chances, he''s a gambling player, and when you have managers like Grant and Roeder who will never understand Cureton''s function of play, for it not suiting their system, and the fact he is under constant pressure from 25,000 fans to do things right, Cureton is never going to show his true potential. He had this understanding with the fans and staff at Colchester. Truth is, we screwed him up.

Cureton has scored two goals in two games.  He has also scored two goals since March 2008.  Last season he missed chance after chance under Grant and then under Roeder. He is not good enough to be our first choice Championship level striker.Where I think Roeder appears inept is that at present, Cureton is our only Championship level striker - and he''s on loan to another team.

I wouldnt say Cureton was on top form last season, but he is still a decent player at this level. Given our current striker situation, Cureton surely has to be recalled, especially now he has scored a couple of goals and has his confidence back.

Look at our options with Lita gone; i cant see anything happening their for a few weeks, he''ll be considering his options.

1) Sibierski - Injury prone and far too unreliable. We cant afford to be paying his wages and then risk him being injured - Must Go

2) Lupoli - Decent Finisher but doesnt cut it with Roeder, too lightweight. Wouldnt be suprised to see him return to Italy

3) Koroma- Will surely return to Pompey, if he hasnt already. Another roeder loan which was a mistake. Did he ever see him play?

4) The Kids - Renton & daley - well; they are not kids, they are 18/19. If they are good enough there old enough. I wish Roeder would tell us they just arent good enough or give them a chance.

5) Carl Cort - Is he the missing piece weve been looking for for 12 months. No. He may have had injury problems;  but to me it still is a low cost gamble; that aint gonna work. He was already axed from the Forest squad, or could he not cope after playing 20 minutes on boxing day?

Jamie Cureton - He looks the best best out of anyone, he is proven at this level, and over the xmas period matched Sibierskis goal tally for 4 months.  He needs to play with a big guy (iwelumo remember), and if Roeder can find one from somewhere i beleive he would score us goals.

Get Jamie Back Now, before Roeder lets him relegate us by firing the goals for Barnsley, and we go back to playing 4 at the back and 6 midfielders!

Of course the fact JC has not scored in a norwich shirt is due to JC and not glenn roeder.JC is a professional footballer and it is purely down to him.All this B**dy bullshit it''s roeders fault............... get real

This is a joke the only person to blame for Cureton''s poor form in my eyes is the Crowd at Carrow Road who get on his back as soon as he steps on the pitch or makes a mistake.    The reason he''s playing with more confidence for Barnsley is because the crowd has been behind him every game despite missing some sitters for them in earlier games.

Had Roeder loaned him out due to the fact Lita, Lupoli and Sibi were always to be ahead of him, to a league one team then that''s fair enough, but the fact he loaned our only official Norwich City striker out to BARNSLEY, who were struggling at the time and who are now pulling away thanks to Cureton''s 2 in 2 games, is beyond me!

Why loan our striker to a fellow struggling club who are now looking safer by the game, they''re not clear of relegation and on 32 point, about 6 points better off than us! Cureton helped them win against Burnley and draw against Preston with his goals... 4 points he earnt them in 2 games... well done Glenn... brilliant decision!

So... Croft, marshall, docherty, clingan, lita, etc... All theese players playing well, and 4 playing badly, this is all to do with how bad of a manager roeder is, if you want to criticise, please do it from both veiws, he''s made some players play brilliant, along with some bad...
So Jamie C''s loss of form is all down the the crowd and is nothing to do with Roeder?Agreed, the crowd have contributed to Cureton''s demise but to say Roeder is blameless is laughable, he''s at least 50% culpable if not more. It was his comments at the start of the season following Cureton missing one sitter that started it all.Cureton has to put up with a few boo''s once a fortnight. He had to endure Roeder''s ''motivational techniques'' 7 days a week. I think this far more contributed to his loss of form than a few boo''s on a saturday once a fortnight.Eboue got absolutely pelted the other week, and what happens? Im quite sure Wenger took him to one side sorted him out and now he''s back to his old self from what i saw over the weekend.Thats called ''man management''. Something Roeder chose not to employ on any of his players. Because he just doesnt have the ability.

Regarding the point about Bell in the original post, I think he''s touch & go at the moment & with a bigger squad he wouldn''t be playing; he apparently struggles to get his ankle to calm down between matches, so it''s perhaps not surprising he had a crap game on Sunday & why Roeder subbed him so early.

Some players dont need much intervention from the manager. Others rely on it.

to crack on and get playing and play as many games as I could. I''ve

played a few games now so I don''t mind telling people the situation.

But I didn''t want to use that as an excuse, that I''m carrying an injury.“I''ll

have maybe a couple of days'' rest in the week, just for my ankle to

calm down after games
, but it feels really good and hopefully I can

hang on until the end of the season and get my operation done in the

summer.
Apparently the specialist. has said it''s OK for him to play on, but, in his situation I''d be worried about long-term damage. Whatever, he certainly didn''t get 2 days rest before Sunday.

Cureton is not the only one by a long chalk. How about Holahan, Bell, Chadwick, Martin, Fotheringham and Marshall whose performances have noticably dropped this season? Then there are issues with Lupoli, Drury and Lapin who simply aren''t getting the chances they deserve.

As for saying Doherty has benefitted from Roeders management style, don''t make me laugh. The guy wouldn''t be in the team at all if Stefanovic wasn''t injured! The mans man management skills are pants. You only have to consider some of him cringe-worthy comments about fans for examples of how he works.

There are a whole host of threads relating to this topic - I just chose this one for convenience.  I''m not one to jump on the ''Roeder out'' bandwagon for the sake of it.  Before Sunday I was talking to family and other non-City supporters and I was saying: ''Sacking Roeder is all very well, but who are we going to replace him with?''.  Now, after watching the game, I have that feeling you get when a relationship has run its course - you want it to work, but your heart tells you its pointless carrying on...

A few things brought this home to me:

One: the way the Forest player who scored their first goal ran straight to the bench to celebrate with the caretaker manager.  They were obviously playing for him and had clearly been told words to the effect of: ''go out and enjoy yourself and see what happens, we''ve got nothing to lose''.  I thought to myself a manager who thinks he knows everything and destroys player''s confidence is clearly more dangerous than someone who trusts the players to do what they are good at.

Second: linked to the first, I kept looking at Wes Hoolahan and thinking: ''the only thing that he is lacking is confidence'' and this has clearly been destroyed by the way he has been managed.  We all know what a class act he was for Blackpool.

Thirdly: the way the players were genuinely looking around at each other in disbelief, not fully knowing what their role is or who was responsible for picking opposition players up.  Again, over-complicated/unclear management?

The worst thing that coud have happened was for Lee Clark to go as he did.  He will be a class manager because he is a genuine human being.  We all know that the players loved him and loved playing for him - he was clearly the motivator behind the scenes and without him Roeder''s weaknesses are fully exposed.

Look around the championship and the thing I notice is that it''s invariably the managers who respect individual players that get the respect of the players in return.  We all know that in any job, management is about decency - even the most difficult decisions are respected if they are carried out in the right way, by someone who is secure in him/herself; someone with integrity.

This does not apply to Roeder; it''s time for him to go...
