Scally unhappy over Bertrand cash

Gillingham chairman Paul Scally believes Chelsea nabbed their former junior Ryan Bertrand on the cheap. Bertrand signed a scholarship with Chelsea after initially agreeing terms with Gillingham, who were awarded £125,000 compensation at a tribunal. Scally said: "Chelsea offered £50,000 - £25,000 down and another £25,000 in six months time. If he plays 40 games then we will get another £400,000. "But frankly if he plays 40 games then we should be getting £32m."

He was right, that is a steal...... but more like £1m than £32m I feel!

bertrand is a good player, whether he would of developed into the type of player he is now with gillingham i dont know.i think about 400,000 is a good amount for a 16/17 yr old.

400k IF he plays 40 times for Chelsea, which he will not. If he plays 40 games for Chelsea then yes he would have to be worth multi millions.

If he plays 40 games for Chelsea, Gilligham should get around 5m plus, which I imagine is the "value" of somebody like Wayne Bridge.

Having played 40 games for Norwich, Gillingham should get over 1m as that is what it would cost us to buy him.

The tribunal system is yet another in the long list of crimes the FA has established to favour the big clubs, mostly because the FA is run by the chairmen of the big clubs.

In any other industry this would be know as a conflict of interest. The FA stinks. Bring back the blazers I say.

He wouldn''t play 40 games for Chelsea, because they would probably sell him when he got to 39 games !

I''ve always liked Gillingham because they provided us with Steve Bruce who went on to be one of our best ever players.

To make it fair I would make it simple.  In this case say, Gillingham get 50% of any future transfer fee.
