LETTER TO CHAIRMAN SENT 03/12/2008 BY CONCERNED SUPPORTER

Recommended Posts

Having had enough of

the current situation, I wrote to the Chairman of NCFC..........I do not expect

a reply, although in the past he has returned communication......but it made me

feel better......to all you pundits on here with your cynical and tyrannical views,

don’t bother to comment.....I simply share how I feel with supporters of what

was, once, a great club.....

1ST

December 2008

Norwich City FC customer number ??????????

Dear

Mr MUMBY

                                I have no doubt

that recently you have received several letters from supporters of NCFC in

respect, once again, of the now critical situation that we find ourselves in

concerning the quite abysmal stats concerning match results.

Whilst

I doubt that you personally look at the message boards of web sites concerning

NCFC let me assure you that the mood of supporters both on match days, after

match days and indeed for the rest of the working week is governed by this one

subject, and hundreds of comments are left on such sites and talked about on

local Radio and television stations in concern of our current predicament.

I am

an elder statesman of NCFC supporters, although there are many others who have

supported the club longer than I. But I am able to recall the years dating back

to the late 50’s, watching players like Terry ALLCOCK, Tommy BRYCELAND and Bill

PUNTON play for this great club, men with passion and the pride to wear the

yellow and green shirt.

I have

spent thousand of pounds during this time, not just on my passion, but also in

introducing my own children to the club, all of whom are steadfast supporters.

We share the passion with the thousands of other supporters, NCFC is OUR club. I therefore feel that

I have the right, somehow, to comment on recent matters.

A

starting point is the appointment by the board of the last two managers to

NCFC. Peter GRANT, a man that I met personally, and I have to say a gentleman,

whose passion for the club was there to see. Glen ROEDER, unapproachable,

impersonal and to be honest, damn right rude, personified with the remarks that

he made to an honest NCFC supporter at the recent AGM ‘regarding the

gentleman’s tenure of post of the England team’. Yes, he may have apologised,

but he still said it, and I have no doubt that he meant it.

Managers

of NCFC cannot insult the lifeblood of this club. It has happened before, (et

al Mr WORTHINGTON and unfortunately also Mr GRANT). I also wrote to you

concerning both these previous managers, and found your replies honest and

constructive. That both were soon assigned to the history books of the club did

not surprise me!

Prior

to the appointments of GRANT and ROEDER supporters were told the long wait and

news blackout was so the board ‘got it right’ this time.

Quite

simply, they didn’t, in either case. Peter GRANT: untried and untested as a

manager. Glen ROEDER: with as poor a track record as one could imagine at

Gillingham, Watford, West Ham and Newcastle.

Probably

not quite so amazing is that the playing records of Peter GRANT and Glen ROEDER

are to date very similar: In case you and the board are unaware:

Peter GRANTS reign at Carrow Road saw him

take charge of somewhere near 56 games (including cup). His teams won 15, drew

11 and lost 30 games.  Glen ROEDER has

been in charge for 55 games (including cup) and his teams have won 15 games,

drawn 9 and lost 26 games.

Interestingly enough, his OWN squad, following the massive clearout that he

undertook, have managed 5 wins, 5 draws and 10 defeats. (20 points)

With the squad he inherited from GRANT he lost 16, drew 9 and won 10. (39

points)

And MR

ROEDER is arrogant enough to suggest to a Norwich City supporter that he missed

that gentleman’s tenure of the England post when a squad of players that he has put together since the

commencement of the 2008/2009 season has taken 19 less points than the majority

of the side that he inherited from GRANT.

One

needn’t linger on this subject any longer, but it is put in this letter as I,

personally, would like to know just what the current board of NCFC intend doing

about this situation. One can only hope it is positive and not left to linger

as in previous cases!

But

the current incumbent situation does not stop just here. When we look further

at the under achievement of the current manager, perhaps no one supporter is

surprised.

Peter

GRANT’S first game in charge saw 16 players named who were ALL contracted to

this club. He introduced youth to the first team squad such as the Jarvis

brothers, Spillane, Eagle, and Martin to name but a few, and made some astute signings. His

treatment of one or two of the squad (e.g. Safri/Mcveigh) left a lot to be

desired and there were the disasters such as Hartson!

Roeder

took control of Grant’s squad, and he has constructively and systematically

dismantled any chance of enhancing the stability and consistency required to

build a successful and balanced side capable of entertaining the paying

supporters of OUR club and bringing the desired success.

Gallagher,

Colin, Robinson, Earnshaw, Brellier, Fleming, Strihavka, Shackell,

Chadwick,  Jarvis x2, Spillane and Martin

to name but a few who have either been discarded or loaned out to other clubs.

And

then we have the dreadful, and I mean dreadful, treatment of Simon LAPPIN and

Jamie CURETON, and to top the lot, that of one of the greatest and most

entertaining players that I have had the pleasure to witness playing for OUR

club, Darren HUCKERBY. Yellow and green through and through, so much so that he

refuses to play for any other team so he does not have to play competitively

against his beloved NCFC, a man who travels to America to continue his great

career, who set his teams season on fire when he arrived there, just as he did

when he joined our club. And he now sits in the stand, watching debacle after

debacle week after week, just like us. A gifted and exciting player; a match

winner without doubt.

It

does not take a layman, Mr Chairman, to see exactly what Mr ROEDER has done to

these players. He has destroyed them in simple terms.

And

just what does the NCFC supporter get in return...........eight loan

players.......no consistency, no stability, no entertainment.......and the

manager bleats in the local newspaper prior to the Sheffield Wednesday match

that he is down a bare 16 senior professionals, when HE has just allowed Jamie CURETON to leave for (initially)

three months to a club who are to be rivals for our mere existence in the Coca

Cola championship this season. He bleats that a player turned down the chance

to join us on loan, preferring to stay at his parent club.......I don’t believe

it takes much to work out why!

An

even worse situation (kept quiet for a long period) is the situation with

Archibald- Henville.....sent back to his parent club.....not deemed good

enough.....and NCFC reportedly paying his wages. Just how was this situation

allowed to happen!

And

following the most recent match, Mr ROEDER states to the media....

"I feel very angry, I''ve never been involved in a game like that

before where we dominated the first half and then lose," Roeder said.

"I don''t think they had an attack in the first half. We got a goal in

front, which we deserved on possession and the game should have been over at

half time and they were not in the game at all.

Perhaps you could pass on to Mr ROEDER the fact that I and

many other supporters like me are ‘feeling

very very angry’
and have been for many

many months
, concerning his management, coaching and tactics of the

playing staff of NCFC.

The stats do not lie, Mr Chairman.....Mr ROEDER is as poor,

if not poorer, than his predecessor. And should the board of NCFC once again fail

to act immediately they will be culpable for the demise of OUR (the supporters)

club. You, the board, Delia and Mr Wynn-Jones are mere custodians. We as

supporters can only thank you and them for your assistance when times were

hard. But that is history. This is the future. As supporters we are all aware

of the current economic climate, we are all aware that the club ‘is for sale’ or ‘looking for investment’....and

we are all aware that in the near future this is very unlikely to happen......

just who would want to invest in a club who look very likely candidates for

relegation? Perhaps more serious is the fact that 20,000+ season ticket holders

are considering their own position in the coming months regarding renewal for

next season, and they will he heavily influenced by what is currently happening

(or what is not happening perhaps!) at NCFC.

Lose them, and it will be many years to recovery, if it is possible at

all!

I for one, (and I know of many others), have already decided

that should Mr ROEDER remain, and results and performances do not improve, I

will not be parting with my usual £400+ pounds next season.

This man has not taken us forward; in fact he has taken us

backwards. As I said before, Rome was not built in a day, but the foundations

were laid. The manager of NCFC has laid no firm foundations for the future, and

does not look likely too.

Mr GRANT did the same......need I say any more......positive

action please.

A very very annoyed and disgruntled supporter, fed up with

the excuses put forward by the manager and various players, all who continually

state ‘they owe the fans’.

Yes, they do, and so do the board of

NCFC........collectively it is your mess, you appointed......and again you did

not get it right........!!

How can he honestly take you seriously if you don''t even bother to find out the correct spelling for his name. I''m sorry but if I received a letter slating my team from someone who can''t spell my name, it would be in the bin.

And, I am sorry, but if you for one second think that Roeder can create a whole new team within one transfer window you are deluded. Grant (a person you seem to have some sort of admiration for) ruined our squad of players, and left us with no tangible assets, Roeder has had to start from scratch, and I fully think that it wont be truly "his" team until we either get some money or until next season. It may be too late by then, but it was the appointment of Grant as manager that has put us in this position, yes the boards fault, but he had the footballing knowledge of a peanut.

Yes it is Mr Porky, shame you have to use such language, I didn''t speak that way to you now did I? I simply think if you want an honest, well thought out, reply you spell the guys name correctly.

And no comment on my other post? Or are you choosing to ignore someone who is debating your letter?

Also from someone who apparently started watching Norwich in the 1950s, couldn''t you use some better adjectives, I don''t appreciate being spoke to like that by people who should be setting a better example.

obviously you''re an upset long-standing NCFC stalwart porky,,,much respect for having the bottle to express how you feel to the NCFC chairman///my take is this - its fair to say roedy''s agm debut was a horrible PR disaster - and as i''ve suggested before, imo this event has galvanized some supporters into taking action - maybe cos they feel their loyalty to the club has been taking advantage of...sure roedy saved us from relegation, and in my view he deserved an appropriate level of slack to get his team going - but as porky has demonstrated, the stats don''t lie...do you feel like you''ve been taken for a mug porky???and then got your nose rubbed in it by roedy???or where are you coming from???and NCFC star - was it you who wanted to flog their ST in the city stand??? how did you get on???

Haha, a cynic now am I? You can''t post on here and expect things to go without debate. Call it decent if you like, but everyone is entitled to their different opinions, and Porky chose not to respond to my constructive criticism, picking up rather on something that was not as important to the debate.

I don''t like the attitude that some people have on here, why bother posting things if you do not want a debate? Not everyone is going to agree with what is said, and that''s just life I am afraid.

Decent letter I would say. Interesting random use of capitalised words though. I seem to recall one resident sleuth citing that as being a major clue as to the identity of one of the chief transfer wind-up merchants earlier in the summer!

Brilliant post Porky, it could have been any one of us disgruntled fans that wrote that, but well done you, and I know you cannot post private e-mails on here from the club but it would be interesting to hear if you got a reply.

[:O]i don''t condone pork''s reply, but i can understand why he made it, and yeah - he obviously formulated his reply to your first post and not the second...[U]so - why don''t you guys kiss and make up, and then unite for sunday to face the auld enemy??! Well done Porky, never mind the spelling mistakes etc, at least you have done the deed and sent the letter to Mr Munby.

I am sure you speak for many of us, especially those of us who have been around under other board regimes. It''s difficult for me to accept what''s happening to our club as I have known better times. I wonder, do the present board bank on hanging onto their position in the boardroom on the basis that the newer fans not only have lower levels of expectation, but are part of the "new" fan who just loves a good day out.

Will you let us know when you receive a reply and summarise the content on here for us?

An interesting post and I hope you get a response. Can I ask you one question though Porky? Can you tell me any names of Managers the A. Norwich could afford B. Could do any better in the transfer market with zero money to spend. C. That Norwich could attract. I for one cannot think of a manager with lots of experience that could keep Norwich in the top half of the table with 1 transfer window and zero cash. Im interested to know who you think could do this. For all the thing i dont like about roader, there could be worse i.e.Grant

No Steve o, I am sure Roeder would say to you in private that if he had the money he would have his own team in place by now. Loans are good for us, because we couldn''t get the same quality for the money, BUT they can''t take the place of a permanent player, and until Roeder can make a team up with maybe only 1 or 2 loan players I don''t see it as "his" team, at the moment he is doing the best he can with the budget he has got.

Roeder has had the money mate, plymouth and bristol and a few others have had less, they''ve all got their own team, Roeder could of shopped in the lower leagues, you say we couldn''t get the same quality for the money well Andy Bishop would be better than Sibierski, Henville was a complete waste of money by Roeder,

Its not "just" a spelling mistake; porkyp spent a considerable amount of time composing a very sincere (and fair) plea to out club, yet couldn''t even spend a second to get his recipient''s name correct. Everything following that unforgivable error, regardless of how accurate or emotive it might be, goes straight to the filing cabinet marked "irrational cretin".

Shame.

You honestly think with the budget he has clearly had to adhere to that you could get the same quality players in as the ones we''ve had on loan? If we sign Lita in January, then Clingan, Bell, Hoolahan, Stef (before he was injured) are all great signings.

I don''t think Andy Bishop would be better, no one has took the gamble with him have they, Roeder doesn''t deserve the stick he has gotten for his team selections. A-H was a mistake, but come on, don''t you think he has done the best he can in a bad situation? I honestly don''t think you could get consistently better players for the money that he has spent.

Bishop has been watched by countless Championship clubs for the past two seasons plus some Premiership and none have yet gone for him.  He is a very good League Two player but there is no guarantee he can step up to your level.   Bishop is the highest paid player in League Two (around about £100k or just over) and he''d want a two year contract to move. If you think he is worth the risk go for it but remember he won''t be up against League Two defenders.
