Mulryne The Playmaker

Recommended Posts

I just wondered what your opinions are on Mulryne. He would be on my team sheet every week because he is the playmaker of the team and usually makes things happen, well what do you think. Also why does Worthy bring on Iwan at the end when he could have brought Jarvis on to gain a little more experience.Surely we should be giving the lad 20 mins or so here and there to build up his experience so he can learn from the likes of Huckerby etc.He is the future of this club not Iwan.

I wasn''t at the game today, just listening 2000 miles away but I was thinking pretty much the same thing, Diane, our passing was poor by all accounts and our best passer of the ball spent 90 mins sitting on the bench, I think the choice of Roberts or Jarvis was a 50/50 call but the game seemed to cry out for Mullers for sure!!

The problem with Mulryne this season is that he has picked up a number of injuries and has spent more time out than in. I listened to the Preston match on Radio Norfolk and it sounded as though the game was crying out for Mulryne to come on in midfield.

The question of bringing on substitutes is always an interesting point, but Nigel is a creature of habit and fairly predictable. We can usually expect to see Crouch substituted by Roberts about 10 mins before the end. In Saturday''s match I would have liked to have seen Jarvis on for Henderson and Mulryne on for Crouch for the last 20 mins. Henderson was beginning to tire and Crouch did not appear to have much joy in the air against the Preston central defenders.

The bottom line is that we gained a creditable draw away from home, another point, second automatic promotion slot. Whatever our opinions as fans as to who should be on the pitch, Nigel makes those decisions and so far he has got it right as the league table shows.

I too would have liked to have seen Mulryne playing yesterday, all in all I rate him as the most complete and talented player we have. It is no coincidence that recently our most attacking periods of play and the ensuing goal fests have all occured when Mullers has been on the pitch. Some say he is not consistent, no one is 100% consistent or sensational over every single game.

This is the first division and with the exception of Green (who is in a highly specialised position) we do not have any world beaters. We do have highly capable players who are better than or can meet the standards of similar players from the other teams in div one. Mullers is one of those. It would have been great to have seen him influence the game yesterday, the game crying out for someone to boss it, and he is the man for that sort of role.

I don''t know the full facts, maybe he wasn''t quite fit enough, and yes, we got a point and are second, but I came away feeling very disappointed that we weren''t carrying on from the Walsall game in terms of tactics - Preston were by no means that fantastic and we could have beaten them to go top.

Scary thought eh, and it could happen on Tuesday. I hope Mullers returns then with Francis in midfield. We have to be positive at home against Coventry and Crewe. With Huckerby and Crouch playing and Mulryne feeding the front players it could be really good. Let''s hope it happens and we don''t throw away our golden chance to be top by the start of December.

Pete,
Sorry you''re wrong Mullers was on the bench yesterday (well according to Roy waller and the official NCFC website). If I am right and he was on the bench then we can assume he was fit and if he was fit then I feel he should have been playing!
