How Quickly Things Change

Recommended Posts

Four short weeks and four games ago Crystal Palace were in 17th place, just three points in front of Norwich. With a win that looks likely against Southampton this afternoon they could move into 5th spot. It just shows what can happen with a few good results on the trot.

Well, that was the point Lucky, that until four games ago you could hardly call Palace consistent. They were averaging just over  a point a game for their first 17 games. In a very short time they are in the playoff spots. Looking at the squad that Palace has, on paper, it does not look leaps and bounds beyond the Norwich squad.

Also found it interesting that in the Palace post-match report Neil Warnock was quoted as saying Shefki Kuqi, despite scoring a number of goals recently, will be sold in January as Palace can''t afford his wages. This despite lifting themselves into the playoff positions today. Could we call that heavily prudent while the school is still out on how ambitious they want to be? I think, given the economic pressure, January transfer activity could be more interesting than normal this season.

It''s not just the squad though, Warnock has a proven record of getting teams into the play-offs/promoted from this division.

Play-offs is fun! Good day out, lots of excitment. Promise for next season. Promotion is big problem. Lots of defeats to come, restless fans, need for big investment. In Norwich''s case need for a second tier on top of the City Stand. Sounds to me as if Palace have got it right (at the moment)!
