The Championship

Recommended Posts

Just turned it on and the match currently being shown is Scum V sheff utd. How the hell did Ipscum get that penalty? The dirty spaniard dived IMO- they probably wont need luck to beat us next week....[:(] but that doesnt mean I dont want us to win

How the hell did Tudgay stay on the pitch? Looked a stonewall sending off.

no chance shoudl Tudgay of been sent off.. i have seen it on TV.. the rules for "professional fouls" are if he denies a goal scoring chance.. which it doesnt look like we would of scored directly from.. youy see challenges like that every week in the box that dont result in red cards.. the ref was right im sorry to say....

It wasnt a profesional foul, other players were in the goal area. The ref got it right.

He was towards the left but still a clear chance for my money. From what you can see of it Tudgay looked like the last man too.

Penalties have nothing to do with goal scoring chances! If the player is fouled in the box and you would give it outside of the box then it is a fould and a penalty. If it was to do with goal scoring chances you could hack players off the ball in the area and get away with it!As for sending off - its not just that he is the last man back but also if there are any other players in the vacinity that could get to the player with the ball and make a challenge before a shot on goal etc. The player could be two yards behind the player with the ball but if the referee deems he would stand a chance of getting back and making a challenge etc then the other man is not considered to be the "last man".Its all very confusing and is down to the referee and his assistants to use their own judgement, all you can ask for in one game is consistancy throughout.Handball is normally the iffy one - if it is deliberate it is a straight yellow. If it is deliberate and prevents the ball from crossing the line it is a straight red. If it is accidental and is to the advantage of the team who''s player handled the ball then it is a free kick to the opposing team, if it is not to their advantage then again it is up to the referee but it should be "play on".
