Yellowfuture 71 Posted November 16, 2008 Well another miserable trip to CR yesterday. Was sat watching an interview with Greeno on MOTD last night and it struck me that we have nobody left at our club that the fans really relate to and worship. Thinking back to Robert Green, Iwan, Malky Hucks even Dion for a couple of seasons, who is there now that is seen by us fans as a big part of the club, someone who represents what we are about. It feels as if the soul has gone and there is nothing left for us to cheer for or sing about. This is a part of the problem with so many loan players, it`s not just the issues about commitment etc which have been debated to exhaustion on here, but it`s also about our soul, who are we? If I had a 6 year old now whose name would he want to put on the back of his shirt "to be decided" mabye.

If we had two or three decent permanent signings, we''d have someone to focus our identity on (Huckerby was more than a player, he was the club talisman). If Hoolahan had picked up where Huckerby left off, the number of loan players would be less of an issue. But something''s pretty rotten when the best we can do is to sing the name of "Johnny Otsemobor". The loans point is a red herring. It''s the lack of a Green, Roberts, Malky, Dion, Huckerby which is turning people off.

But if there are 5 players in the side who are loans it seriously hampering the chances of getting behind the players who are ours as there just arnt that many in the side to choose from. It''s harder to get really behind loans players (especially those we have no hope of signing), with the possible exception of centre forwards. It would be interesting to know who the most popular name of the current squad is on shirts sold by the club? or are people getting their own names or leaving them blank? Yellowfuture 71 Posted November 16, 2008 Mr Chops, why is it that we dont have two or three decent permanent signings, have we been trying hard enough to get them or are we to easily persuaded to go with a loan player? This wasnt intended to be another post arguing the loan player point, but for me the absence of a club "Talisman" is related to the number of players we have on loan. methcanary 0 Posted November 16, 2008 Saw the title of your thread and thought maybe you were at the UEA on Monday night with the rest of us old punk rockers to see the amazing Stranglers in action!! but anyway I tend to agree with what you have said. I sat in my seat yesterday when our second goal went in, people around were asking ''who scored that one?'' For some inexplainable reason I didn''t seem to care, it was a strange feeling which I was struggling to come to terms with, but having read your post I think ''lack of soul'' seems to just about sum it up.
