Yah, but League One sounds so much better.  Just like Championship sounds better than Division 2.  What I want to know is "Championship" of what, exactly?

Spot on, Wiz, it''s the Third Division. I suppose that League One makes the division sound less third rate, though. Along the lines of Waste Disposal Operative, instead of dustman.

Same reason as Division Two got labelled the Championship. Load of old cobblers and like you...the Third Division is how I will always view it.
