Brown returns!

Recommended Posts

What sort of reception will our ex prolific goal scorer get (did he ever score)?

We are unlikely to boo him as most were glad to see him go and I doubt if any will cheer him.

Guess we will just ignore him and say Brown who?

Not a goalscorer but exactly the type of player someone like Lita needs. Worked incredibly hard when he was here so no need to boo him.

Not a bad player, just not a natural goalscorer. Always worked hard for us.

Agree sometimes it just doesnt work and he doesnt score enough, i think he has a bit of an attitude too. But have to say, saw him play in the cup last season (a prem team but cant remember which?) on telly and he looked bloody amazing. So aggressive, hard working and direct gave the prem team real problems. Still didnt really look the part with us.

Great commitment, and we could use a player like him now. No need to boo.I think the fact he couldn''t find a goal, and that Dion Dublin and David Strihavka, and to a lesser extent Doherty, were at the club at the same time, put him in a bit of a hard position. Never was going to come good for him if we''re being honest.Never the less, glad he''s doing well at Preston, and i see no good reason here to give him a bad reception.

He will undoubtedly be boo''d, not by me i haisten to add, There are only 2 ex-canaries I will boo/jeer when they return to Carrow Road.

1 is Mr Robert Earnmore the other doesn''t even need his name besmirching this message board

Any player who used to play for us and put the effort in should be given a good clap in my opinion. I am still amazed to hear that Shackell was booed so god knows what the moronic minority will do to Brown. He should be applauded, then songs about porn films to distract him once the game begins.

A target man that can hold the ball up AND can also score goals is so spectacularly rare that we''ve probably only had three here in the last 20 years - one was sold for a then British record transfer fee, one for a club record transfer fee and the other had no front teeth.

I never saw the beef the fans had with Chris Brown. He was so obviously not a winger, even though he was played there by Mr Grant, and was hardly going to be prolific from out there! He was playing in a dreadful team that couldn''t pass the ball, and now he would have linked up really well with either Lita or Lupoli.

I think the value of Heskey to the England team may have proved that goals aren''t everything if a striker can cause trouble in the backline.

Good post Mook. Brown got a rough deal. Not a great footballer ( a lot of good strikers aren''t) and had few starts. Never a winger and when he was played up front it was more as a lone striker. As a target man with someone else to put away the knock downs he could have come good I think. Sibierski and the other striker loanees, (Lita excepted) have not exactly set us on fire have they? Anyone who boos Brown is a mindless idiot. I for one hope he has a great game - but fails to score again!

I was disappointed to see him leave, I guess they couldn''t turn down the cash and obviously he wasn''t a prolific scorer, however, I loved his commitment and given a decent run with a proper supply from midfield (non-existent under Grant) I think he would have contributed 10-15 goals a year and set up a good few more.

he did not start their last game, due to being a bit crap.  (Parkin did, he''s 6''4'''' )

Boo the useless toe-rag.

[/quote]

North End fan here dont bite, had to respond to this little gem though.

Hes suffering from sciatica at the moment, he didnt start because hes not fully fit, not because hes crap, because quite frankly he isnt.

The man saved our season last season and put in an excellent performance in every game he played including, as one of your posters suggested earlier, a good prem team in Portsmouth.

I wasnt aware you played him on the wing and honestly you''re better of shut of Grant if thats indicative of the kind of team selections he was making ... diabolical.  He''ll never be prolific in the centre so pushing hm out wide is ridiculous.  As a target man, ive not seen many better at this level though to be honest, he has a brilliant workrate, hes not a shirker, hes athletic and hes a clever player, hes just a poor finisher so for me hes a great assett and an absolute steal for what we payed for him.

How do you think you''ll fare at the weekend, we are f**king awful at the minute.

The kind of post you''ve responded to is hopefully not the norm from Norwich fans, but in this case I fear it may be.

It was pretty obvious to me that Chris Brown had a good touch, good in the air, he was brave and worked his balls off. For some reason, Norwich fans expect to get not just a target man, but a target man who scores goals, and not only goals, but goals from the right side of a front 3! And all that for 250k!! Talk about moon on a stick.

As for you being awful, if ever you want to play a team to "break that losing streak" it''s Norwich City. I don''t know why, but it''s always been a bit like that, even when we were good.

Good luck, hope you turn your season around after we tonk you at the weekend.

I''ve never understood the vitriol for Earnie. He scored a hat full while he was here and always seemed a good player. Fair enough, he wasn''t the hardest worker, but i don''t remember anyone complaining at the time.

Christ, it''s not like he came here, got a high wage, and was useless, is it? He was paid to score goals, and he did that very well for us. I''m not exactly sure what it is some people seem to think he still owes/owed the club. His form and goal-scoring record in a City shirt earnt him his move away from a poor side. It''s just a shame for him he''s followed it up with 2 other poor sides. Can''t blame the man for trying.

Or is it the fact that he didn''t develop some everlasting passion for the club in his time here? God knows why that''d happen, as it very rarely does in football these days. Thankfully for us, it did with Huckerby, but it''s being so rare makes it so special.

Furthermore, simply wanting to earn more money hardly puts him in a minority, does it?

As for Preston, it sounds like it''ll be too useless teams on the pitch on Saturday, but i reckon we''ll beat them at home. Can''t say i''m particularly worried by Brown though.

12 Months a go i thoughty Chris Brown wasnt good enough to play for Norwich City, wherever he actually was still i dont know...but the ridiculous thing now is i would have him an our 11 no problems whatsoever. Someone whos strong, reasonable in the air is what we need; but then looking back its easier...but still if in January we''d have foundChris Brown irreplaceable i''d have been questioning your sanity...unfortunately Mr Roeder is the one whos lost the plot...

It was pretty obvious the boy had a good touch and the balls to stick his head in. The fact that you''ve changed your mind shows you weren''t paying attention to the good things he did at the time. Much like how the Doc was treated until his absence has been noticed. And Gary Holt before him.

I know he wasn''t too popular but he''d be the perfect foil for Lita in my opinion, holds the ball up really well.

Consider myself told

when chris brown was a norwich player 99% of fans didnt rate him; perhaps we had too high expectations; perhaps you minority were right...; or perhaps even though he is better than what we currently have; is that just down to the poor choices roeder has made in the last 6 months.....

I could tell it wasnt too indicative of what your fans are like, but it was factually wrong so i had to reply, unfortunately you get fans like that everywhere, Brown was derided at ours before he''d even played because of some of your fans reports to us, despite the fact that the player you were describing was exactly what we needed.  People expect miracles and complete players at championship level and they just dont really exist.  Saying that i think its part of the reason hes been so successful at ours, he came wth absolutely no expectation and he thrived on that.

I also hope you do well, ive always kind of liked norwich from back when you beat Bayern all that time ago and thanks for the sentiments, unfortunately for us, I dont think we can turn it round, some of our key positions are filled by incompetents at the moment.  If Roeders done his homework you''ll beat us, and we almost always struggle against struggling teams.

Good, I''m glad we''ve agreed I''m right ;)

Seriously though - Brown was 22 years old, ok he had a chequered past and a low strike rate, but he definitely has the potential to become one of the better upper-Championship target men on the scene.

I guess I just get frustrated that dissatisfaction spreads so quickly in a football crowd. Once one person says they''re fed up with someone, the 10 people nearest copy, and then 100, a 1000 and so on. His actual performances didn''t warrant the ratings that he got - the whole team was awful, and tactically clueless.

Much like Doherty at our place. He came from Spurs with a calamitous (and unwarranted) reputation, perhaps the Premiership at a young age was too much for him. So therefore, every time he put a foot wrong, people immediately got on his case assuming Spurs fans were right - which of course they never are.

Only now people are starting to notice that occasionally every central defender pulls shirts, mistimes tackles, gets turned and doesn''t have great distribution. It goes with the territory of being a CB.

I''d question the "good touch" Mook - I always thought he was light on footballing skills generally - BUT he did get in where it hurts, and in a team full of clueless limp-wristed losers that made him a real beacon. Even when he played up front as a target man, he had no one near enough to lay it off to - they were all hiding in the long grass. Unfortunately, he looked no more likely to score himself than Crofty - why is it that at Norwich it''s only the most ineffectual players who put in 100% effort consistently? Anyway, good luck to Brown - anyone with his attitude deserves a decent career in football.

Chris Brown wasn''t given the run of the green at Norwich, as soon as he left he started scoring and assisting and was instrumental in helping save Preston, goes to show what kind of management we have.
