we8wba 0 Posted October 25, 2008 the lad played his first 90mins in wolves shirt, looked solid as a rock in defence. nononse defender who knows what to keep the ball or when to clear his lines. won 80% of headers today which came his way. cant judge on one game but looks shrewd signing. just thought let you all know how the lad got on in his first game for us

Yellowbeagle 0 Posted October 25, 2008 Good and commited player, just lost his way a little and had to much pressure put on young shoulders with the captaincy. Before last season he was according to actim index the 34th best player in the championship but had a poor season like alot of our players last year, so despite what some other people post on here he is a good player, just needed a change to get himself back on track. Polar 0 Posted October 25, 2008 Yay, 5-2 another wolves 5-2 related thread! 5-2is wolverhampton 5-2 is in east anglia? 5-2however, 5-2 i wish him well and hope he 5-2 gets the transfer away from 5-2 the molinwho fairly soon 5-2, just so our youth product doesn''t 5-2 dirty himself too much.oh we8.... 5-
Steve H 0 Posted October 25, 2008 I think he''s a decent defender but somewhat uncultured with the ball at his feet. A move was pobably for the best, he got his first run in the team in the Premiership and what with the ammount of goals conceeded since then his confidence probably was shot to pieces. What''s with the name change we8??? a1canary 0 Posted October 25, 2008 I don''t think Shackell was or is a bad player but i''m more than happy with our central defence as it is at the moment. We needed a serious injection of experience at the back and in Dejan and Kennedy we have that now. We had to let someone go and it was either going to be Shackell or the Doc - they didn''t work as a partnership together. Shacks himself was getting itchy feet so he was the obvious choice.I wish him well with Wolves (except against us!) and i for one would be happy to see him do well. We''re too used to the players we let go disappearing into the lower leagues which may comfort some people but to me it''s a pretty damning indictment that so many of our academy players have shown themselves to be only league 1 level at best. Houston Canary 0 Posted October 25, 2008 It seems like Wolves are involved in 3 or 4 very lopsided high scoring games every year. Some they win by 4, others they lose by 3, but they always seem to be a "one off" (I think that''s the term you guy use) and they are always in or near the playoffs. They need to EARN the right to play us 0 Posted October 26, 2008 Gary Doherty has just played back to back great games. Funny how he looks 10 times the player when he isn''t alongside the clodhopping Shacks.

a1canary 0 Posted October 26, 2008 I just think they didn''t work as a pairing. Doc looked chaotic alongside Shack and vice versa. But Dejan is the perfect foil for Doc because he''s calm and cultured and reads the game so well. Doc''s strength is getting in the way and not giving the opposition any space but we all know he can be a bit panicy as a defender. Dejan restores some calmness to docs game and i''m sure he''s been teaching the doc a thing or two about that!

At Norwich he cost us a lot of goals, but for some reason Doherty got the blame for them. Shackell I think will be playing in the lower leagues before to long. He had the potential but has gone down hill ever since the premiership season.

Lincs CR 0 Posted October 26, 2008 Doherty and Stefanovic are the best at the moment, however I''m certain Kennedy will be fighting for his place as he has a hell of a lot of talent and ability we have no yet seen.

A good championship defender with just enough potential to possibly be ok in the premiership, good enough to play for us and good enough to play for you. I hope that he does well for you, I dont hope that Wolves do well, but I hope that Shackell goes on to have a good career. Sadly, I dont think he will become what he should have become (which is a premiership defender) but I think that has a lot to do with being at the wrong club under the wrong managers. He is also far too good looking for a centre defender...... but I guess that is a sign of the times. Hopefully it will be because he''s matched hard work with good performances for Norwich.Whatever happens having 3 quality centrebacks to pick from is very pleasing to see.
