is it really roeders fault

Recommended Posts

he was given 2s 6d to spend on players, you cant expect miracles when you have to shop at poundstretcher. the board cant match the ambition of their protagonists in this league who would kill for 24,000 fans week in week out

I''m not sure how many other people remember this, but I remember Glenn Roeder saying in an interview once that he had been backed by the board to a sufficient standard, or at least to the standard he expected to be backed. If the team we''re watching now came from "sufficient backing" then I say yes, Roeder''s fault.

Is it Roeder''s fault that our squad is weak when compared to the top teams in this division? I would say no. He''s done as well as I think anyone could with the pittance he was given.

However, it probably is his fault, along with the players, that we aren''t playing anywhere near our (limited) potential.

Provided we finish higher this season than last, I won''t be too critical of Roeder.

But he has stated time and time again that''s he''s been satisfied with the "pittance" he has been given. If he''s satisfied with it then these are Roeder''s players. He''s not been forced into a position where he has to make-do with crap. Roeder''s players, Roeder''s responsibility.

He''s chosen to obtain the players he has this summer. Personally I''m sure he could have gotten hold of better players than he has even with the limited money he''s had available as some of those we have got hold of look very average.

He''s the one who''s chosen not to obtain a proven goalscorer even though we''ve known we would have a problem in that area since about last Christmas time.

He''s the one who''s chosen to slag off selected players in public which must do wonders for their confidence.

He''s the one who''s chosen to make Fotheringham captain when the guy should never be putting on the yellow shirt.

He''s the one who chooses to play people out of position which leaves 24,000 people in the stands mystified and which, surprise, surprise, seems to leave the players even more mystified.

He''s the one who''s chosen to play his favourites ahead of other more able players.

He''s the one who chose to part with Hux and then introduce Hooli as the new superstar - although he doesn''t now even seem to merit a place in the squad much more the starting eleven.

He''s the one who chose to obtain a centre-half from Spurs who can''t even get in the squad when we have no centre-halves available for selection.

He''s the one who chooses to make the most weird substitutions I''ve ever seen which again surprise surrpise fail to have any effect on the game or if they do have an effect it''s a negative one. Rusty hasn''t played in goal yet but I''m not banking on it not happening.

He''s the one who decides on the game plane for each match. Sorry, I''ll reword that. He''s the one who tells them that the game plan for each match is for Marshy to hoof down the middle for one of our giant forwards.

Will that do for starters?

Roeders playing budget this season was probably bigger than half the other teams in the league. The most worrying thing is he has wasted it all on very poor loan players who will happily walk away at the end of the season or sooner leaving us with no assetts whatsoever.

The money paid out on loan fees and agent fees could have brought in four or five lower league players who may not have been as good (I somehow doubt they could have been worse) this season but at least we would have owned the players who would hopefuly be better next season.

Survive this season and what then? We are in a far worse position now than we were at this time last season. We have an equally incompetent and out of his depth manager but the players we own are signifcantly worse and certainly fewer in number.

Do you really think we would be worse off with Chris Martin up front. The loan players have hardly troubled the scoreboard operators.

Huckerby anyone, on what he is being paid in the States? A lot less no doubt than the dissappearing man aka Hoolahan.

Roeder has let the fans and the club down big time.

you say the money could of been spent on lower league players, Andy Bishop or Steve Howard would of proved better buys than Sibierski, how on earth he ever played in the prem is beyond me!!!
