canary cherub 1 Posted October 2, 2008 After reading that I am forced to conclude that Watford have been modelling themselves on Norwich City. Elton John wonders what has happened to £8m profit from the Prem season, the parachute payments and profits from selling players, as little or none of it seems to have found its way into Aidy Boothroyd''s budget. The Watford chairman witters on about prudence, preparing for the loss of parachute payments and securing the long term future of the club, sounds as though he''s lifted it direct from Doomy''s weekly column. ellis206 0 Posted October 2, 2008 And I hope for the sake of Watford fans that their chairman has taken a leaf out of Doncasters book because in a few years time the Watford fans will still have a football club and won''t be relegated due to a massive points deficit for going into administration. Don''t you agree Strawberry? or do you think its more prudent to do a Leeds or Southampton?

Do you honestly believe that "doing a Leeds" is the only alternative to the slow starvation that we''re experiencing? There''s no need to go from one extreme to the other. A happy medium is what I''m looking for.btw Leeds weren''t relegated due to a points deficit, they were already down before they went into admin.

[/quote]Erm, Southampton haven`t actually been into administration but to be fair they could well struggle- but then they have an obvious reason for it, their crowds being 10,000 lower than ours. The same could be said of Watford but we`re hardly soaring above either club are we?For every Leeds there`s W.Brom, Sunderland, Hull, Stoke etc., and i think we now look with envy even at clubs like Burnley and Preston who have money to spend and little debt despite crowds half our level. YankeeCanary 0 Posted October 3, 2008 Of course, you won''t hear the negative anti-Norwich board crowd looking at the Elton John situation in full perspective. He may be a Watford fan but when he gave up control the first time in 1987 he left Watford floundering and the club was relegated to the second level the next season. When he left the second time in 2002 Watford were reported to be close to administration. This report at the time now seems to be supported by the current owners. If Elton John is honorary President of the club and he''s worth over 250 million pounds then why is he having his conversations with Boothroyd and the media and not the people who run the club presently. Sounds like a Peter Cullum style to me. Perhaps that''s too balanced for the negative crowd but it will certainly not have gone without notice to objective posters.
