MACCA SCORES IN NORWICH DEFEAT

Posted on: Mon 06 Oct 2008

Alan

McCormack''s second half goal wasn''t enough to prevent Southend United''s

reserve side slipping to a 2-1 defeat against Norwich City this evening.

Blues were also dealt a blow when French forward Francis Laurent was

stretchered off late in the second half following a collision with

Norwich keeper Declan Rudd.

Dean Austin''s second string travelled to Carrow Road for the specially arranged friendly fixture in front of 1,592 spectators.

United fell behind to a penalty from 19-year-old Norwich midfielder Damon Lathrope on the half hour mark.

Lathrope slotted past Blues American keeper Ian Joyce from 12-yards

after United duo Peggy Lokando and Johnny Herd fouled City''s Jamie

Cureton in the penalty box.

And four minutes later the Canaries were two up thanks to striker Luke Daley who added a second for the home side.

McCormack did pull one back for Southend after 64 minutes and

Anthony Grant hit the crossbar in the dying moments but it proved too

little for Austin''s side who had Laurent stretchered off eight minutes

from time.

Southend: Joyce, Grant, Sankofa, Lokando, Herd, Scannell, Moussa, McCormack, Walker, Furlong (O''Keefe 58), Laurent (Ademeno 82).

Subs not used: Masters, Forshaw,

I''m afraid that''s wrong, Lupoli was fouled for the penalty, not Cureton.

By the sounds of it Lupoli did some nice work, won the penalty, produced the cross for Daley and had a odd chance himself based on reports.

I went to the game on Monday night

Seyfo ( gambian trialist) played well and was better than the loanee (Troy) who played beside him. Yes he started off wobbly but improved quickly as the minutes ticked by winning most of the balls in the air and distributing the ball well and on the floor.

Troy - no better than the Gambian lad why is he here still?

Lupoli - Seemed a very selfish lad, didn''t pass the ball too often when he should have and seemed to have a few tantrums on the field, bellowing loudly at someone when they didn''t pass to him. Also made a fuss about who was going to take the penalty ( the usual ressie penalty taker took it) and sulked and didn''t congratulate the goal scorer, send him back - NOW.

Curo - worked hard and never stop running

Luke Daley - my man of the match - easily

Hooli - Had a few nice touches but didn''t chase much and didn''t stand out for me.

Felt for Lappin who was on the bench and got on for 10 mins - he deserves better in my opinion.
