Waghorns at it again...no surprise I suppose

Recommended Posts

Another anti Cullum article on his site today.

In answer to the main question in his article "is the club worth more today than it was this time last year ?" - No I personally don''t think it is, why does league position in the championship make a difference to what a club is worth ? Yes the owners may have been more willing to sell last year for a lower price because of the league position they were in - but that does impact on the value of the club.

You could actually argue quite strongly the club is worth alot less this year due to; financial market conditions, depreciation in land and property values, fewer permanent playing staff, the fact the debt of the club hasn''t dramatically reduced balanced against lower revenues, and 2 directors would could provide future investment and security against some of the debt have walked away.

Why does Waghorn want to paint such a negative picture of the life of modern football club ownership ?? - yes it is different to the way the club has been managed by Delia, but it is the way football is going, like it or not, things change. You can either accept it and move forwards or resist it and run the risk of disappearing into oblivion.

Personally I want success for my club and for me thats Premiership / top championship - for others that may be lower. If success means the club being owned by someone who wants to manage in a different way to Delia - then bring it on...

The difference in TV income for a potentially Premiership club and a potentially league 1 club should give you the answer to that question.  Last October we were a league 1 club in all but name, after all.  Having said that, it doesn''t matter that much at the start of the season.  It''s next April / May that could determine a higher value.

I honestly dont think you can paint a picture that we are in much better shape than 12 months ago although Mr W does a decent enough job !  As the judge correctly states the value of any remaining fixed assets will be lower and we have less players that we could potentially sell to make up any financial shortfall. Add to that the dissapearance over the hill of the Turners for whatever reason and we appear to have our hands firmly behind our backs financially. Lets not get too carried away with the performances on the pitch either I am still very much of the mind that we should be looking over our shoulders rather than reaching for the top. Had we not got lucky last saturday we would still be very much looking at the wrong end of the table. We still dont look like beating teams regardless of our play in other areas of the pitch. I really dont think we have much chance of cracking the top 8 and would take 10th now add to the that the fact we will have to rebuild the team all over again next summer without any cash and I see no reason to be cheerful.

I was thinking about subscribing to his site but following all the pro Delia and anti Cullum rubbish I''ve decided against it. Why can''t he just accept the fact that she can do no more and it is more important that the club gets the necessary funding than Delia making a fortune out of her shares. I don''t give a damn whether she makes 1 or 10 million, the club is the most important thing to me.

As Kevin Keegan would say, ''I would really love it'' if Cullum ended up in charge at Carra Rudd and Waghorn had to eat copious amounts of humble pie!

More than anything else, it''s the arrogant and pretentious way in which Waghorn writes that really jars me off. Richard Balls - agree with his views or not - was a much more stimulating read, IMHO.

Don''t forget that Waghorn is a Man City fan too - so he''s only interested in making a living out of NCFC, not how well we do...

In fact, given that, his anti-Cullum stance is rather ironic, given the people who have bought/owned his club. (And I don''t see how he can argue that they were better off with the Franny Lee''s etc than they are with their current cash-rich oilmen...)

An admirable attempt by Delia''s PR man.

But sadly Rick, the club is clearly worth no more than it was a year ago - at best.

Nice try though.

Thats what I was thinking [:D]

And of course, if Cullum ever did take over, it''ll be fun watching him squirm and crawl trying to curry favour with the new owner.

Must admit, I have never bothered to read anything that he writes, and the problems at Newcastle is destined to happen at Man City too

He is probably getting advertising money from NCFC.  Wouldn''t want to rock that income stream.

But yeah, all that money is going to do Man City no good at all according to Man City fan Waggers... right...

Is this all brought about by us sitting in the top half after 7 games a point behind Blackpool?  The proof is in the pudding and when we all roll up for another year of championship football next season after yet another lower mid table finish, I think we will have cemented our position under Delia''s stewardship..

Got to admit it, have never ventured onto his site and have no desire to.  Nothing that I''ve heard about his site on here encourages me to do otherwise.

[/quote]Coming from a poster named after Nostradamus, a man who made a career spanning several centuries entirely by being disingenuous there is a delicious irony here. What we really wanted Nostradamus was specifics: names, dates and places, cold hard facts not gobbledook which has to be interpreted retrospectively, no such nonsense with Mystic Meg.

Hey Mello, why not try this one on some of humourless contributors...... If you throw a hovercraft into a bucket of water, do the ripples spread outwards.

Agree. Its the way he presents himself as somehow being superior to everyone else that irritates me-all that garbage about "citizen journalists" last season for example.

I did expect him to be subjective but I sometimes wonder if he and Neil Doncaster aren''t the same person!

More seriously, journalists who seem to think a photo of them has to accompany their stories also bothers me-why? He writes and todays news is tomorrows recycling, how relevant is a picture of the person behind the fast food news? Of course, its not only he that does it-they''re all at it-but it does seem a tad egotistical...

...said the man with a photo of himself as his Pink Un avatar, whoops!

Anyway, I don''t care! Sorry Waggers, but you are too rather firmly inside one camp for me, I''d prefer you to be objective, but I guess few writers, ditto newspapers, are, so....

It''s all about personal choice Shuck. If Waggers was firmly in the Cullum camp he wouldn''t get the same criticism. If he was objective and sat on the fence he would get the Neil Adams treatment. It seems that pundits and columnists are rubbish unless they agree with their critics point of view. And that''s the same whatever side of the fence people sit.

What I don''t understand about Waghorn is how his site can be succesful? Does anybody know anyone who subscribes?

Sometimes if there''s a link on here otherwise I never think of looking. Same with all of them I guess. I''d rather read contributions on this board, that way you can at least challenge opinions you don''t agree with.

It''s very rare that you agree with anyone that makes a negative statement or opinion concerning the club......I think you and Waghorn should get a room.
