As I recall Reading lost at home to Plymouth on the first day of the season, and the next match they lost was a televised game at Luton, but it was well into the season by then.

When we played them at Madjad it was on 31st Jan and we had just signed Earnie. We lost very badly that evening. It was 4-0 and could have been twice as many.

Funny you posted this CT. I read an economics/sports blog that had a recent article about what effect winning or losing the first game of the season has. Ironically it has no effect at all (this is for NFL mind and not football) but looking back at our last 10 seasons, it again has no correlation. Infact apart from our promotion season and the season before last, there is no correlation between winning and having a good season (top 12) or losing and having a bad season (bottom 12). I don''t think it helps that most commonly we are away and play out a draw. So next season will probably be Stoke away and a score draw.... [:)]

yeah - but reading had been knocking on the door for a while - they got shot of ''much admired'' hoosey - and coppell brought in 4 great signings who all gelled quickly and did the biz...little, lita, doyle and hunt/,.rest is history...
i''m sure they lost on tv at Luton later in the season, Doyle scored after about 20seconds if i remember rightly
Thinking back I now seem to remember they lost two games that season. Either way, cracking performance.
