- A rubbish joke and concrete evidence the Binners are still living in the past

Recommended Posts

While enjoying a beverage today in the capital of suffolk I picked up the evening star and out popped ''the green un'' (the pink uns poor relation). After my initial revulsion I thumbed through the grotty pages to find the ''man in the stands'' equivalent (hardly).Anyway the main joke was that GR had taken the budgies (ggrrrr) deep sea diving in pre-season after hearing about 20,000 leagues under the sea - thinking that he may be able to win one of them.    It was such nonsense that I actually got quite annoyed and was in a rush to get back home to check when the binners actually won a league outright - I wasn''t surprised to find that it was the ''old'' Division 2 in 1990-91 season. A FULL 12 YEARS BEFORE OUR GLORIOUS 2003-04 SEASON, not only was it this century but I believe in a considerably more competitive footballing environment. In the same tawdry rag they reckon that if/when they get promoted this season that they will be able to attract top top European players as all the European players still remember Ipswich winning the ooeeeffaaa cup ( I think that was just after the war ).     I mean for players to remember that would have to be at least Finidi Georges age :-)Anyway the joker who tried to be funny with the underwater gag was a certain Kevin Mitchell - feel free to let him know what you think of his comedy repertoire.I also saw the dazed and startled Ivan Campo looking around as if he couldn''t quite believe that his career had come to this.I then went into planet bloo and took up loads of their time asking stupid questions then told them I was a Canary - I admit I''ve done that before and have the photo to prove it - they get so cross :-) ;-)

Wonder if Web team Pete and Celia etc, have to mingle with their Ipswich ''colleague''s'' at work functions such as Christmas?  Too many beers might lead to a few heated exchanges.  [B]

Yes they are funny.

I spend a lot of time in Chavesville, and what I notice is that many of them have a pathological hatred of all things Norwich.

It seems to stem from their feelings of inferiority.

They dont like being a town ( or Tow-en as they say it)

They dont like the fact that their TV and newspaper news comes from Norwich. ( Archant own and in some cases print their papers in Norwich)

They resent being the last county in England to get a university (even little Colchester has had on for many years.)

The resent being one of Enlands official worst towns.

The only thing they have to be proud of is some extremely old football glory.

Even this is second hand as most of them werent born when they last managed to win something.

But in their eyes they are a big club!!

But as I say.

They are funny.

The university they have is actully part of Norwich''s university, the UEA, so in fact they still don''t have there own uni, they just have a tiny section of are''s

It''s not part of it, but affiliated. To UCS is definitely a Uni in it''s own right.....but that doesn''t mean it is any good.

I find it''s almost impossible to have a conversation with a Binner without him/her/it bringing up their 1978 and 1981 cup success, before going onto claim that Ipswich are a far bigger club than Norwich, what many of them fail to realise is that their ancient achievements represent very little of the clubs size today, in fact many of them don''t even realise we have been the more succesful club out of the two in recent times.

What also amuses me is the Binners bitterness over our great home support over the last few years, they seem to claim that our attendances will drop the following season every year, and when they are proved wrong it''s because we have nothing better to do apprantly.

They are most definitely boiling at the moment, especially with the BBC Radio Norfolk airwaves dispute. Most binners I know are banging on that we''re in financial meltdown and we''re going bust - that''s why it would be nice if we could start winning a few games (and them not) and going up the table a bit. Oh! and maybe being taken over by a rich supporter. It''s great fun wearing City gear here :-)
