singing canary 0 Posted September 1, 2008 we need at least one striker... so we sign a defender on loan and sell one,at the end of the season even if we got promotion we wont have a team surely its better to work on your perminant squad, myself i rated shaknell plus the fact you can only play so many loan players at a time anyway, no team at the end of the season no money, sorry for sounding pesamistic all sounds a bit strange to me but in a buiseness term makes sense sell all your players get what you can draft in loan players on a short contract with no transfer fee.delia wanting to sell up,another million pound in the back pocket-a promise of a striker for months every other team has managed to get one even forest and they were in a division lower last year, i think we have to read between the lines here..no money to buy,and a want away owner. Mister Chops 7 Posted September 1, 2008 It won''t make sense at 12:01am tomorrow if we don''t get a striker - but I really do think we''ve got one coming in before midnight tonight.

nutty nigel 7,902 Posted September 1, 2008 It wouldn''t surprise me if players have been sold to balance the books. However, I don''t suppose for one minute that Roeder has been lying about his attempts to bring in a striker so he must believe we have the ''wherewithall'' to bring one in, either loan or transfer. Lazza 0 Posted September 1, 2008 I don''t think the plan is for promotion this season. I think GR is just setting the basic building-blocks for a longer-term team rebuild.I''d settle for mid-table this season with some of the loanees swapped for permanent signings in summer and again before the start of next season with a strong push for promotion next season. Salopian 1 Posted September 1, 2008 It does make some sense, possibly, if the striker is to be a loan player, whether Helguson or someone else. We have to wait a week before we can make further short term loans, - 3months, and we have no game for nearly two weeks. We could consequently sign the striker early next week in time for the Plymouth match. There would still be a gap of one month in December before we could sign Iversen or whoever in January. This does sound possible, but if so is pretty desperate, and disappointing. I can only assume that Roeder''s confidence was misplaced and he could not persuade the other club, or couldn''t offer enough money.

Winning promotion this year would probably be bad news for us as we are nowhere near ready unless everyone is prepared for a season that would make Derby look like world champions.Of course this might all be blown out of the water with the current board-room changes - who knows who will be on our board in a month, let alone in 2 years time! We might find ourselves bankrupt after all the money people pull out taking their cash with them or we might be cash-rich with PC being free & easy with his money to buy the best players money can buy [;)]
