pennywise 0 Posted August 26, 2008 whatever way you dress it up he`s been an absolute disaster at derby with a fair bit of money to spend as well..thank god the rumours never came true and he didn`t roll up here last october .. a truly lucky escape.. Syteanric 1 Posted August 26, 2008 agreed.. the sad thing for Jewell is that he has gone from being one of the best up and coming managers in the game to being a complete joke!Derby will get shot of him soon...jas :)
Lincs CR 0 Posted August 26, 2008 I must admit I was in favor of having Jewell become our manager, I had no idea Glenn was even in the running for the job! Once I first head Mr Roeder''s name mentioned though, under the circumstances of needing our arses saved from a pit of total Grant-Despair jewell went down the pecking order :)Must admit, i thought he would have done better... really doesn''t look bright for them one bit
CanaryRyan 0 Posted August 26, 2008 Jewell wouldnt even face the press after his last game, thats how embarrased he was!
pennywise 0 Posted August 26, 2008 i don`t ever remember a city manager not coming out and facing the press no matter how bad its been..i stand to be corrected of course

The Walking Man 13 Posted August 26, 2008 The majority of fans wanted eithier Paul Jewell or Ian Holloway at the time. Both managers have gone on to have sucess at their respected clubs...

Time to go Delia 0 Posted August 26, 2008 Just because Jewwll has failed at Derby does not mean he would of here , he got Wigan promoted to the Premiership and they are still there , i very much doubt Roeder will ever achieve the same with us .

Redknapp can do no wrong at Portsmouth where as their previous half dozen managers could do no right. Redknapp failed at Southampton but went back and could do no wrong at Pompey again even though the others who replaced him failed in the meantime. Jewell did wonders at Wigan but could do nothing at Sheffield Weds and now appears lost at Derby. He could be a success somewhere else though. It seems to me that there''s no real formula for success as a manager and being in the right place at the right time can be much of what it takes.

Match Day Pie 0 Posted August 27, 2008 I''m just glad it wasn''t our manager on the front of the News of the World caught in his underpants with some ageing slapper. I doubt the Derby dressing room was full of awe for the former candidate for the England job...

Thecanaryfan 0 Posted August 27, 2008 Jewell lost all respect when his sex tape was exposes by the NOTW. He is a love rat with a penchant for kinky sex. If you played for him would you would show him respect? I wouldnt.

StokeCanary 0 Posted August 27, 2008 Haha!! [8-|]I wonder what the dressing room was like that monday morning....every player reading the NOTW while they got changed, haha! I''m sure he just did it as a bit of restbite for the players from getting panned every week - definite team spirit builder [:D]

we8wba 0 Posted August 27, 2008 horses for coursesjewell done terrific jobs with wigan and bradford and may quite well done it here. all those clubs he was given money but limited amounts (like us) but derby seem to give him what he wants as long its reasonablemay worked out better than you thought. ndhscanary 0 Posted August 27, 2008 I am also very happy we never got him. The fact is at Wigan and Bradford he had millions to spend on players. He had a dreadful spell as sheffield Wednesday manager and in all fairness he made Derby even worse than they were when he started off. I mean towards the end of last season every game they pretty much lost 4 or 5-0 and to consede 4 against a reading side who for most of last season couldnt score to save their lives shows you how bad they are
