whatever way you dress it up he`s been an absolute disaster at derby with a fair bit of money to spend as well..thank god the rumours never came true and  he didn`t roll up here  last october ..  a truly lucky escape..

agreed.. the sad thing for Jewell is that he has gone from being one of the best up and coming managers in the game to being a complete joke!

I must admit I was in favor of having Jewell become our manager, I had no idea Glenn was even in the running for the job! Once I first head Mr Roeder''s name mentioned though, under the circumstances of needing our arses saved from a pit of total Grant-Despair jewell went down the pecking order :)

Just because Jewwll has failed at Derby does not mean he would of here , he got Wigan promoted to the Premiership and they are still there , i very much doubt Roeder will ever achieve the same with us .

Yes but by the same token just because Roeder didn''t carry on his success for a second season at previous clubs doesn''t mean he won''t here. Redknapp can do no wrong at Portsmouth where as their previous half dozen managers could do no right. Redknapp failed at Southampton but went back and could do no wrong at Pompey again even though the others who replaced him failed in the meantime. Jewell did wonders at Wigan but could do nothing at Sheffield Weds and now appears lost at Derby. He could be a success somewhere else though. It seems to me that there''s no real formula for success as a manager and being in the right place at the right time can be much of what it takes.

jewell done terrific jobs with wigan and bradford and may quite well done it here. all those clubs he was given money but limited amounts (like us) but derby seem to give him what he wants as long its reasonable

may worked out better than you thought.

I am also very happy we never got him. The fact is at Wigan and Bradford he had millions to spend on players. He had a dreadful spell as sheffield Wednesday manager and in all fairness he made Derby even worse than they were when he started off. I mean towards the end of last season every game they pretty much lost 4 or 5-0 and to consede 4 against a reading side who for most of last season couldnt score to save their lives shows you how bad they are
