reserves/academy short of money ?

Recommended Posts

saw in the pink un last night that 4 professionals were playing for the academy team... and they won 5-2 against forest  and the 5 goals they scored were scored by the pros !! If they continue to do well will roeder give daley and renton a chance ? or will he feel that they should be scoring at this level. Is this better for them than the reserves.?

Could they not loan out these pros to ridgeons teams/kings lynn  to get the vital match experience ??

The club would be better off closing the academy down and using the funds to pay higher wages. If you do manage to produce a player with good quality they are sold before they get near the first team(John Bostock). We would be better off  picking off the released academy players of the top clubs, letting them pay for the delevopment. And also buying from lower clubs, Wes Hoolahan for example , it costs far less to pay a one off small transfer fee than develope him from 9 years old.Another nail in the academy coffin is the recruitment radius problem ,you can only recruit schoolboys who live within a 40mile (I think) radius of the club which isnt a problem for the big four clubs because they will get a boy from africa and move him with in that radius.I was talking to an academy coach a few months back who told me the worst thing that can happen to the academy players is getting called up for the England youth teams. They go away with England get all pampered and think they have made it , and come back strutting around colney like peacocks.

I don''t agree.  At the end of the day, we do still have several players who have come up through the ranks within the squad, if not as many as we would like.  Perhaps the academy hasn''t really produced too much in recent years, but we currently have plenty of internationals at their age groups and you have to hope that the current crop is better.

As to playing some of the young ''pros in Academy games, this is probably a feature of having no reserve matches so far, those being games where these players would have been getting matches last season.

.....speaking of which, it has all gone rather quiet on the Reserves front - I thought that we were going to arrange a series of games, still to be played at Carrow Road.  Has anyone heard anything more about that?
