WELL PLAYED CITY

Recommended Posts

Just got back from the soul-less commercial greenhouse that is the Ricoh.

I''ll keep it short and sweet:

We played superb football at times, didn''t deserve to lose (many Cov fans on radio Cov said as much), new boys look good, and we just need to finish off our - at times - lovely, lovely attacking play.

I''d rather lose playing like that at the start of the season than lose and wait till the tenth game to see some decent play.

It''s promising, and with a big man to take out at least one defender, Curo, Lupoli and Koroma will score hatfuls.

Top six if we get the right big man - mark my words.

OTBC, we''re proud of you.

I think a lot of people agree with your opinion. I do and remain positive, there is no point being negative all the time.

Seriously, I''m really excited at our prospects after today. Screw the result, the Cov fans on the radio were astonished at how they got away with that. Carrow Road is going to go nuts for some of the passing we saw today. Bring it on!

The passing was really good and can''t wait to see it again, but we need to put the simple chances away. Really excited about some of the players we have got.

Agree about the passing. It was real sexy football at times - and if that style of football is here to stay then we will become the Arsenal of the Championship (just without the end product). Our season now depends on getting the right striker(s) into the Club, asap, because if we''d have had one out there today then we''d have turned Coventry over easy.

Just got back myself, and i have to agree with everything you say here. I am looking forward to Bell playing instead of Croft and also seeing Lupoli when fully fit. He looks very good and reminds me of a Bellamy type of player. Some of our attacking play was superb, but they tried to walk the ball into the net instead of shooting, and always seemed to do one pass to many!

Playing well does not a league position make. How we performed means nothing unless we have points to show for it.I would prefer we played dire football and came away with all 3 points, at least then we could hope for some improvement.Instead we play well and still achieve nothing. Speaks volumes. We need money to spend, and the only way we''ll get it is to force Delia out so we can get some new outside investment.

I went today and can honestly say that i can''t understand how we lost that. The ref was worse than D''urso by a long shot, had no control of the game, missed obvious incidents, had to be told 3 times by his linesman which side a corner should be taken, no consistently, let them kick us all over the park and blew up if we so much as touched the Cov player''s shirts and missed a clear pen on Hoolahan and gave one for the Cov player throwing himself to the ground with no-one touching him. The linesman near the Jewson end (where the away fans were housed) was an utter joke, and flagged offside everytime we got in their half. The first half we were stunning, we played some truly breathtaking football, most of it controlled by messr Hoolahan. Lupoli was fabulous, the only criticism that could be levelled his way is he tried too hard and was trying to walk it into the net, but his link up with Hoolahan was so blooody exciting its unreal!! Shacks looked accomplished at LB and played well, bar a few minor errors. Dejan and Kennedy looked good, likewise Omozusi. Dejan was particularly outstanding. Clingan  looked like he good be an inspired signing and Fozzy looked twice the player he was last season as a result of having decent players around him. Lupoli is terrifyingly skillful and ghosted past defenders on a couple of occassions, Curo was decidedly average but ran his heart out, still not good enough though.Overall a very optimistic outlook for the season after seeing the team today, disappointed wit the result but there is nothing we could have done for the freak goal rolling along the crossbar to drop at Mckenzie''s feet, or the fact we had a total t**t for a ref. We''re in for an exciting season with good passing football, a decent signing in the target man position and we will be top6 at the end of the season without a shadow of a doubt.

Totally agree. Really good performance and on another day could have easily snatched 3 points. Thought the centre back pairing of stefanovic and kennedy looked very solid, the midfield worked tirelessly and there was some neat interchanges between cureton, lupoli and hoolihan resulting in some good chances. Just needed to be a bit more clinical and needed a bit more luck. Encouraging performance and if we keep that standard up we could be in for an exciting season!

I was also at the game... and was very impressed with what I saw,  I think the passing was top notch, we kept getting a bit carried away at times aswell. its very frustrating watching people take 1 or 2 touches to many.... I am the fella that rang canary call and Neil agreed... it was very frustrating and sometimes u just need to have a shot!. but 1st game of the season and they should be happy with that.... ok the result wasnt good... but in the words of Nigel worthington " there was lots of postives to take out of the game".

Hoolahan again was awsome, so was Clingan, fotheringham, kennedy but with a new signing (hopefully Rasiak) i think would help soooooooo much.

long balls up 2 cureton will never work ! lol.

but lets keep positive... doesnt look like the team will need long to gel, and the results will come our way... 45 game left to play!!...  which is 135 points!! so lets learn from this and keep up beat guys... for those who listened to radio norfolk... trust me... we were good... and with a good forward and a fully fit lupoli we will get the goals aswell!...

OTBC!!!!!

Well I can assure you we can play like Brazil IF we dont score the confidence will soon go and so will the passing etc. You do NOT get points for playing pretty football especially in this League with joke referees like we had today.

A few more games like that one and all this well played stuff will evaporate. We need a quality striker and we need it NOW. One with a proven goal scoring record

Superb FOOTball by City today.  If we can get a couple of big strikers to go with Lupoli and Komoro (spelling?) then we should be buzzing this season.

BTW. good support by the fans today.

Lol.But it is good to see a report from someone that was actually there and its good that its a good one too.  Its a report that i think most of us expected and hoped for.  Is the Rioch Arena as bad as it soundedd on the radio as the only time you couldnt hear the Norwich fans was when Coventry scored.Bring on Blackpool!

Was that a female linesman or a lad just out of school?

How refreshing to hear someone being positive.  Only five of last years team started the match today which in itself speaks volumes.  The team will take a few games to get to know each other.   Roeder knew he would have problems with so many players arriving late at the club, including some who were not as fit as the rest of the squad.   Listening on the radio we dominated the game and were punished for two mistakes.   All the new signings seemed to have a good game and that bodes well for the future.

I swear I saw a woman in the refs warm up and still thought it was her during the game, at least I didn''t wolf whistle.

With regards to the Stevo incident, I did think he was lucky to stay on, lets say he used all his experiance to stay on, he made it look less dodgy, there player would have been clean on goal if he had not done that. We didn''t get a pen for Hoolahoop, which from where I was sitting was quite blatant.

I sat with some friends in the corporate area today.  Have to agree with lots of comments - Cov fans around me were genuinely impressed with our performance - light years from our last visit to the Ricoh

But have to disagree with the noise banter. This happens all the time  - away fans claiming they outsang the home fans.  Our fans in the away section did us proud but they were often drowned out by Cov fans - simple acoustics.  When you are surrounded by 2000 people, you think you are making more noise than you actually are making.

The song "you''ve only got one song" was slightly embarrassing - caused a lot of mirth from Cov fans - "On the ball City" ring any bells? ;)

Their penalty looked soft but genuine - a push in the back.  However, ours was a definite call. Having said that, the referee was pretty good today - allowed the game to flow.

We outplayed, outpassed and outthought Coventry.  Croft fell over the ball when it was easier to score, their keeper made 2 excellent saves and we missed an open goal.

We just need a decent striker.

Apart from Coventry fans singing after Coventry scored the Coventry fans were quiet. The home fans didn''t make any noise even when the Norwich fans took a rest from singing.
