line up vs spurs?

Recommended Posts

was thinking tonight that we should start how we finished today but the doc in for svensson, then suddenly realised that we''ll have bentley back-where will he go? cos he''s gotta start, playing the scum in his eyes!

was very impressed with safri, thought he made excellent use of the ball all second half! should definatly start against spurs!

maybe?

green
edworthy fleming charlton drury
safri holt francis bentley
the doc huckerby

if he gets safri/holt/francis to play as a midfield 3 and give bentley the free role behind the front 2! like huckerby was doing towards the end of today!

any good???

not bad. A midfield 3 would probably help our current defensive problem. With two attacking wide players our full backs are getting pretty isolated and we are allowing far too many balls into our box. The defending has been generally heroic so far this season, but nearly always rather desperate and last-ditch. We have to defend further up the pitch and stop those balls coming in.

i have to agree with green and yellow aswell. i think our best chance is to attack teams. 4-3-3 will work with the players we have, and lets resign ourselves to the fact that we´re going to let in goals but hopefully score more.

i like the lineup that Green and Yellow suggested but to be honest, I think it''s just too frail on the defensive end.

taking out holt and having bentley and hux track back to be defensive cover just doesn''t cut it. it''s very attacking -- i like it but it could be suicide in the prem.

i am growing more and more attached to the notion of a three man midfield with someone behidn the front two.

safri was excellent in the second half. picking out passes and stepping back and looking up at what''s going on. holty does not do that and francis doesnt either. you cant have a central midfield that doesn''t have creativity in it (and bents on the far left doesn''t count).

if you have a midfield three of a diamond with holt at the back of it and safri and francis in front of him, i think that works.

then, the real flex in this formation is that bents and huckerby can switch back and forth between who is up front and who is playing behind the front two.

it''s a very tantalizing formation. it does put pressure on us in the sense taht finding width will be difficult but i think over time, we can make adjustments that allow the full backs to move forward at the right time. besides, hux propensity to run from wide positions will keep some of that happening.

i would really like to see:

GREEN
EDW/HELVEG FLEMING CHARLTON DRURY
HOLT
FRANCIS SAFRI
BENTLEY
DOC/NEW HUCKERBY

I think your line up Hucks is spot on

we need to go to spurs and shut the space down and build our confidence up again as spurs are still unbeaten and defoe is on fire.

Thought I might be a bit controversial and go for the following:

Green

Edworthy Doherty Charlton Drury

Francis Safri Bentley

McKenzie Jonson Huckerby

Subs: Gallagher, Fleming, Helveg, Jarvis, Brennan.

ha ha!

you can''t take flem out of there. not a chaaaaance!

Can i just ask WHY WE ARE CHANGING THE TEAM SOOO MUCH? We have played 4 games and yes, we haven''t had a win, and yes, we have only got 2 points, but we have played 3 of the top 5 teams in the Prem this season already.

Glad Worthy is sticking with Edworthy, looks streets ahead of Helveg at this moment in time.

Bentley to come back in and play on the left... looked class vs Newcastle.

Francis been very impressed with, didnt think he would be able to cut it in the Prem but has shown he can.

Safri.. give him a chance instead of Holt... though worry that he will give free-kicks away in the wrong places.

Start with Doherty... he hasn''t done badly... holds the ball up well which is something we havent done that well so far. However, by all accounts HAREWOOD should be arriving at F.CarrowRoad today, so he could come on as sub to partner Huckerby up front, has the attributes of Doherty with the bonus of a little more pace.

Lets get behind the team because they have impressed me thats for sure...

so.. Green, Edworthy, Charlton, Fleming, Drury, McVeigh, Safri, Francis, Bentley, Hucks, Doherty(sub Harewood!)

What''s striking (!) is that nearly everyone is giving Doherty a start as a striker, when he''s not a specialist there - by his own admission. That''s because he''s giving it heaps and he''s done really well, despite all the doubts when he signed. Great to see.

Sorry to reawaken an old thread but this is what has to be focused on now that the transfer window has closed.

I''d like to see City try what Chelsea did at the weekend and play with a holding midfield player and three forward/attacking midfield players that rotate. AND keep the ball on the deck.

So,

----------Green------------
Edworthy Flem Chartlon Drury
----------Safri--------------
---Francis------McVeigh/Jonson----
---------Bentley-----------
---Huckerby-----Mckenzie/Jonson--

The three who would rotate are Francis, McVeigh/Jonson and Bentley.

If you''d rather Hucks dropped on then play a partnership of Jonson and McKenzie with Hucks, Francis and Bentley in a midfield rotation.

However, City won''t play that formation because it doesn''t involve a "target man" ;-)

Green

Edworthy The Doc Charlton Drury

Holt
Safri Francis

Bentley Huckerby

Svensson

In my opinion this will hurt teams, using pace & finese cutting in from out wide guarentees support for the front man, although this formation is dependant on the front man pulling his weight and jumping for headers now and again!! Also super francis supporting leaving holt mopping up and safri having ample targets to pick out with his excellent range of passing.
Lets put the doc where he belongs, a premiership centre half.

I like the 1 by james, similar to Pompey''s system...

Heres a similar system to how we started the 2nd half vs Arsenal...also I think Fulham and Bolton use it too? : (4-5-1 without the ball, 4-3-3 with the ball)

----------Green-----------
Eddie Fleming Charlton Drury
-----Francis Safri Holt------
Bentley------------Huckerby
---------Doherty-----------

Maybe mcveigh instead of bentley if its too risky defensivley...

Would be surprised if we started a match without 4-4-2 though, although I think this was how we were playing in malaysia and in some other pre-seasons before safri was out...

cheers lt ncfc!

i think its about time to give helveg another go. he is a very good player and can play as a defensive mid. as holt is off the pace, i think its only fair that he should take his turn on the sidelines.
