Saint Canary 0 Posted September 1, 2004 Wayne Rooney to sign on the promise of some of Delia''s home cooking? I said last week in a thread that I didn''t expect us sign anyone before Tuesday. Who was there really? JJ- Charlton didn''t want to sell and we wanted him on the cheap! As for the likes of Agyemang, Harewood and Ashton, they have no PL experience and we are relying on enough of our squad to step up a level without adding more inexperience. We have one player who has played regular PL football in the last few seasons - Simon Charlton. We need more players like him, we can''t afford to spend £3m on Earnshaw only to find out he isn''t good enough.Secondly, how many strikers do we need at the club. Jonson, Svensson, Huckerby, Mcveigh, Bentley, Jarvis, Abbey, Henderson, Doherty and Mckenzie can all play centre forward. If we can''t buy anyone better, then why buy? For those of you who will say, "surely we could have got someone for a couple of million?", that may be true but it''s not just about a transfer fee. Players of the calibre we need are not really going to be attracted by the thought of playing for NCFC (sorry but if Helveg was 25 he would not be here). We can realistically only attract players with potential or those who are out of favour elsewhere and we already have these! NW didn''t really have many options, why waste money?
