County enter the race to sign Irish striker
Tuesday 15 Jul 2008 11:35:23 by HattersMatters

County have entered the race to sign Linfield striker Peter Thompson. Thompson has been linked with a host of Championship and Scottish Premier League sides in recent weeks so if County can secure the services of the 24-year-old then it would be a major coup.

Officials from the Hatters met with their Linfield counterparts on Monday and the local press over in Ireland suggests that County are set to table a £100,000 bid for the Northern Irish international with various add ons included in the deal. Scottish Premier League side Kilmarnock have recently had a £150,000 bid rejected by the Irish Premier League side so County''s bid will have exceed that if they want to land the much sought after player.

Thompson can operate as a lone striker which will make him an ideal replacement for Liam Dickinson who joined Championship side Derby County at the start of the month.

The Hatters are believed to be ready to offer Linfield £100,000 up front and then offer the player a three year contract in the hope of securing his services at Edgeley Park.

Lifield face Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb in a Champions League qualifier at Windsor Park on Wednesday evening and a whole host of clubs are expected to be in attendance scouting players. Representatives from Norwich City, Kilmarnock, Motherwell and Hibernian are expected to be watching the game and in particular Thompson, so County will have to act fast if they want to land their man.
