Steve H 0 Posted July 18, 2008 From the EDP:"Norwich City are on the verge of making Dejan Stefanovic the club''s first permanent centre-back signing in 10 years. The Canaries have not secured the services of a specialist central defender on a permanent transfer since Malky Mackay put pen to paper on his transfer from Celtic to Carrow Road in 1998."When you think about it that''s about right. Shackell is a youth product, Doherty & Dublin were Centre Forwards who could play at the back, Charlton was a LB come CB and then there is the list as long as your arms of loan players. It''s unreal that we have gone that long without investing money in that area of the team. For what it''s worth I lived & worked in Portsmouth for 4 years and he was very highly regarded there, so this should be a good signing for us. Grando 336 Posted July 18, 2008 I think this is lazy journalism. Whatever people''s opinions of Doherty I think it''s probably fair to say that Worthington signed him as a centre back, even if he did then play him ineffectively out of position sometimes.Still, Stefanovic, if he does come here, will be the first CB since 2004. A Gay Schoolboy 0 Posted July 18, 2008 I think calling Doherty a centre back might be a violation of the trade descriptions act.

He also played up front for Spurs Luton & ROI. Doesn''t make him a specialist defender in my book more a utility player
Grando 336 Posted July 18, 2008 Doherty was never more than an ''emergency'' centre forward though (and let''s face it, it had to be a real emergency for him to play there)...Anyway, the Doherty debate aside, funny that the EDP have now changed their story to say Stefanovic will (if he comes) be the 1st CB since, not Malky, but Steve Walsh in 2000! A player (for us at least) who makes Doherty look Bobby Moore!
