Camuldonum 0 Posted July 3, 2008
Come on, lets relieve the tension[Y]I hope they have fun in the premierleague next season after walking the playoffs....now over to you [:D]
I am a boring old fart unfortunately but I''ve been involved in/following football for just over 50 years and during that time I''ve had some wonderful excitements and I''ve endured crap players, Boards, Owners, Managers (not necessarily in that order although sometimes all together) and I have survived it!For me this is the most exciting time of the season, seeing who we will get in (disappointed, elated, sometimes at who we miss) but then believing that the squad available for the first game will be the one that sees us have a better season than the one before (this is not usually hard in my case).I can''t say how Ipswich will do and at Colchester we will miss them a little because we played them off the park at Portman Road until we missed a penalty and kept only our second clean sheet of the season with Colchester United 2 Ipswich Town 0 but what a way to go and if you have to go down that''s a good way of going and it didn''t help them one little bit.I''m boring because, although I realise most of it is message board fun, I don''t actually buy into the binners, scummers, budgies stuff. I assume all fans support their particular team for a reason. What I want to see is a decent game of football and if my club (s) win that''s a bonus. If we lose but don''t roll over in the process I can take that as well.I EMPLOY an Ipswich Town fan - she came from the Camden Journal but her late Dad was once on their ground staff and she went to games there as a kid and was several times a Mascot so that explains her. She wants them to do well next season and I like happy employees.I hope Norwich will do well otherwise The Girl Upstairs gets extremely grumpy (and during the Grant regime refused to let me tell her what the score was) but she''s stung me for the away shirt (not too costly as she is Ladies Size 12). An upside was me telling her you were 2-0 up against Man U "with 10 minutes to go" when she returned from shopping and got "you''re having me on!"I hope Colchester United do well. For the first time in the history of the club we will have a decent ground - I don''t buy into the nostalgia as it was simply a bloody disgrace. I think we have a good Owner and a good Manager and I believe we will have a much better defence next season. We didn''t have a problem scoring goals last season - we scored more than you did - but were sunk at the other end and because we couldn''t hold on to a lead. Had we held on to a lead in 50 per cent of our games we would have been near the play offs.I hope Lincoln City do well. They have a special place for me because I was one of hundreds of fans who actually plundered their own bank account of real money, not message board promise, to save it not from administration but from extinction. My contribution, and that of many others, ran into four figures and they were saved with 24 hours to go (Pay: Lincoln City FC). I believe Norwich fans once did a similar sort of thing with a blanket collection. We have a good Manager (at League Two level) who came in, somewhat like Roeder, but lifted us not from the bottom of the Championship but from the bottom of the entire Football League as we stared into the Blue Square chasm. I''ve been down that tunnel twice. What I can predict is that by Christmas 2008 I may feel entirely differently about fortunes and that regardless of that there may be a fair amount of FFS both Upstairs/Downstairs and around the office as our various teams progress (or not, as the case may be). No tension here. None at all. Just excitement. And we all start absolutely level on 0 pts.Bring it on!
