Let's let 'them' win this one

Recommended Posts

Over the years, we have all been upset by transfer targets slipping through the net to our rivals. The latest one looks to be Ameobi, who could be joining the team from Suffolk for around £3.5m. I sincerley hope that this is one transfer target that we do miss out on.

Ameobi is a decent player. He would do a good job for us. But so would Patterson, Eastwood, Evans (albeit on loan) and a whole number of centre-forwards; and they would cost us a hell of a lot less than what Newcastle are asking.

I seriously doubt that GR or the board would want to splash this much money out on 1 player (either that''s our budget, or it''s larger than our budget!). I suspect that we will more than happily let Ipswich pay this much money for Ameobi- who in goalscoring terms is still very much an unproven player.

They might well have the money, but by getting ripped-off on the likes of Norris and Ameobi, they may well be throwing it down a Newcastle based toilet...

i agree 4mil is too much for ameobi.would have liked him here all the same. i am a tad concerned over lack of transfer activity though. everyone else seems to be busy

Yes but Norris is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the division (certainly better than anybody in our midfield) and our manager rates Ameobi  very highly , in fact hes hardly stopped praising him up since he got here .Eastwood £1.5 million for a player who flopped at Wolves and will probably go to Coventry anyway , theres not really that many good strikers out there and if you miss out on your targets you end up paying good money for the likes of Jamie Cureton.

Its not going to be a straight £4 million is it , its probably £2.5 up front with loads of add ons , yes i think Roeder does need to bid , Ameobi has been the one player he has wanted all along and if we are serious about putting a promotion team together within the next 3 years these are the type of players we will need to sign . You can sign 10 Bells from Luton at £200,000 but it wont improve us anymore than signing the likes of Jarrett and Hughes . Roeder wants Ameobi , if the club are serious about backing him they will make it happen , and you dont want to swallow all the spin about no money , there never is any at Norwich , even when we were a Premiership club.

You are talking complete rubbish.

So basically what you are saying is that bargain buys are not as good as over-the-odds valuations of players. I saw Bell play for Leicester last season- he was the best player on the pitch. Hoolahoop has terrorised defences all season (ask any supporter from any club). Patterson is an up-and-coming young forward with bags of pace and potential. None of these players will cost anything like what Ameobi would; but they will improve our side just as much.

You are someone is obviously taken in by large transfer fees- and you therefore think that only the most expensive players are the ones worth buying. That kind of attitude does not work- all clubs, no matter how big, are looking for that summer bargain that saves them money, but gives them the same amount of quaility.

One point i think people are missing

If we bid £3 Million for Ameobi, it means that we have a transfer kitty bigger than that. Roeder isnt stupid, when we need 10 players he isnt going to spend all his cash on one player!

Hoolahan is bargain basement because of his get out clause , without that you would be looking at £1.5 million , Bell is playing at Luton for a reason , probably because thats his level . Oh and looks like i was right about the £2.5 mill up front too so hardly talking complete bolllocks . Way to many supporters at this club who will put up with any old dross, and the decline of this club can be blamed as much on them as on the Board .

So all we have to do is let our feelings be known and the Board will act? That''s alright then current worries over!

BTW Wasn''t PG the choice of the Board. And an appointment which wasn''t completely welcomed by more than the odd one or two supporters?

But Grant had to make do with cheap bargain basement players mostly from Scotland , thats what i am trying to say,you buy that sort of player and you are going to be struggling.Whos to say how he would have done if he had been given the backing to buy better.

What action have you taken to improve the situation ?  More to the point, what action can you take to improve the situation ?  Unless you have a large wedge of cash, there aren''t many options available to you to do much about it.

Also - were you aware of reports at the time which suggested that Peter Grant actually didn''t spend all the budget he had available to him ?

So what if it''s his get out clause? Would you rather us say to Blackpool ''forget that 250k clause, you deserve 1 million for him''?

As for Bell- that''s a ridiulous thing to say. He''s being chased by many clubs in this division, and as I said, he was the best player on the pitch by a mile when I saw him at Leicester. And as I have heard from my family (who are season ticket holders at the Walkers), they would love for him to stay.

And as for your statement that a large majority of the fans are to blame for our decline in recent years- you are clearly a disturbed individual if you think that''s the case. You obviously havn''t seen that 20,000 are supporting the club (again) next season.
