Has there been any news at all on the future of Lappin? With dwindling squad numbers I think the guy can still do a job at Norwich City as he has talent. Financially would be pushed to find a squad player for the same price region.

I''ve always said that we should use him as a squad player. There isn''t a better crosser of the ball in our squad IMO.

I think he''s a good player, and excellent at crosses and dead ball situations. Unfortunately we have others to play wide left - Holahan?, Eagle, Pattison, Chadwick. How many games would he get?

i think that IF we sign Hoolahan, it would be between Lappin and Eagle for seckond choice left wing.

i wouldnt play pattison or chadwick on the left

Lappin can also play left back so good cover for Drury if we need it.

There is no way I would use Lappin as backup for left-back. He was por in the games he played there this year. He is a poor defender.

He can do a job, but not at left-back.

This is one of the many problems Roeder is hopefully going to address this transfer window, just like he did by bringing in Camara last transfer window.

I wonder if he''d want to come back?  He obviously enjoyed his spell at Motherwell and the club is enjoying success.  His card was marked by the new manager after the Plymouth fiasco and he may not fancy the prospect of playing in the reserves.  I''d like to see him back but how much do you think we could get for him if we sold him? 200/300k?

I think Lappin has said numerous times, despite being in good form in Scotland (though that''s not hard) that he still sees himself as a Norwich player and ultimately wants to come back and force his way into the team.

He''s not good enough to do so.

10 worst players ever... no offence but that sounds quite a lot like rubbish to me. Theres waaaaay worse we have had, in recent years and further into the past.

Lets put this down straight, hypothetically- next season, Hoolahan- our first summer signing- gets injured for a biggish game. Who would you rather played on the left in that instance, Eagle or Lappin?

Good grief! (How many matches have you been to in the past 30 years?). Simon Lappin has been discussed numerous times here - I think these are the facts:

1. When Roeder loaned him to Motherwell he said they would have the option to make the deal permament.(and I am sure they would like to)

2. Lappin has said quite recently that he wants to return to Norwich and as he is under contract until 2009, I don''t see how anyone can force him out if he wants to make his point.

3. Roeder is not yet in a position that he can let any more players go.

4. Lappin score one more goal than Croft managed all season - despite making less than half the appearances Croft did (and many of them being in the left back position).

5. Lappin has said many times (and recently at Motherwell) he doesn''t want to play left back - he prefers midfield.

6. Lappin went on to score two good goals for Motherwell - one was against Celtic.

7. Our dead ball skills - eg corners -  were not exactly our high spots last season were they?

8. I can''t think of a better dead ball specialist than Lappin right now - (though given the present quad that is hardly surprising I know)

9. I think he is actually a better footballer than some of our present midfielders (egPatterson) - though I agree he has his weaknesses.

10 I think Roeder would be barmy to let such a willing good squad member go without at least assessing him properly.

Whilst I''d agree Lappin wouldn''t get near to getting into Norwichs greatest ever he certainly also doesn''t get near to the worst 10 players ever either!

 

Hes skillfull and has a cultured left foot but his lack of pace is what holds him back, though he''d still make a better squad player than most of what we saw last season and what we''ve got now!

 

Some of the worst performing Norwich players I''ve seen -    

 

Rossi Jarvis, Ian Henderson, James Henry, John Hartson, Keiron Gibbs, Dean Coney, Fernando Derveld, Cedric Anselin, Johnny Wright, Simon Tracey, Muzinic, De Blaisis, Raymond Develd, Patrick Boyle, Shaun Carey, Chris Lewellyn, the Northern based coloured player we had in 2005-06 whos been everywhere since then and many more that I''ve forgotton! - you might get a struggling Ridgeons League team out of that lot!

i agree 100%, if only he was a bit bigger and had an extra yard of pace, as you say a much better footballer than most of our side, however if Hoolahan arrives there isnt much need for Lappin

I think he is a good player, just needs to bulk up a bit.  Maybe compromise a bit of pace for some strength.  If he was less light weight he could be very effective in midfield.  Brilliant crosser and passer of a football, one of the best at the club.
