AndyJR 0 Posted May 31, 2008 Forest''s ambition was key - Earnie31 May 2008 20:31Glenn Roeder missed out on one of his reported summer targets yesterdayas yet another name entered the Norwich City transfer speculation pot. PromotedNottingham Forest ended any hopes Roeder had of bringing RobertEarnshaw back to Carrow Road when they forked out £2.65m to end thestriker''s Derby County nightmare. Roeder had been linked with aJanuary loan move for the 27-year-old and his interest reportedlylingered until the close season, with Earnshaw''s presence in Norwichthis week fuelling speculation that a move was still on. TheWales international - who was also the subject of a bid by SheffieldUnited - said a long meeting with Forest manager Colin Calderwood madeup his mind.“Getting to know Colin Calderwood was important,” said Earnshaw. “Iwanted to get to know what he was like and what he''s looking for. Wehad a good, long chat and that was a big factor in my decision. Noweverything is sorted I can''t wait for the start of the season.“Thechairman, Nigel Doughty, is clearly a big fan of Forest and wants theclub to do well and that''s huge. I like that ambition because I''ve gotthe same ambition. I want to play football and be the best. “Everyoneknows all about the club and what it''s about. Promotion for Forest washuge and hopefully we can keep the exciting times going. Foresthave got a young squad who want to do well and that goes a long way -there shouldn''t be any surprises as to how good the team can be.”Roederwill now turn his attentions elsewhere, with reports yesterdaysuggesting that he is interested in Crewe midfielder Gary Roberts. The21-year-old has a year left on his contract but, with interest in himgrowing, is reportedly reluctant to sign an extension. However,City are not the only club said to be interested - Derby, Coventry,Leicester, Watford, Blackpool, Doncaster and Crystal Palace are alsosaid to have been impressed by the player.Another reported Roeder target is Scunthorpe striker Martin Paterson. Burnleyare keen on the 21-year-old and have had two bids rejected by therelegated Iron after upping their original offer of £400,000 - and hisagent Gary Mellor admits his client would prefer to stay in theChampionship.Meanwhile City have been told to double their money if they want to sign Luton midfielder David Bell. “Lookingat the offers on the table at the moment, Norwich were not even at 50pcof what we are looking at from the other bidders,” said Stephen Browne, director of the LTFC20202 consortium bidding to take control atKenilworth Road.Luton say they have heard nothing from Citysince turning down a bid for the 24-year-old midfielder last week - andthat could mean the chase is over.“Norwich made an offer whichfell quite some way short of our valuation,” added Browne. “It was along, long way short. We have a valuation and I don''t think it isunrealistic. We went back to their chief executive and said ''no thanks, but if you want to put in a revised bid we will listen''. No one hascome back so as far as we are concerned that is the end of the matter. As far as David being linked with Norwich, the ball is in their court.” Luton are one of “several” clubs showing an interest in released City midfielder Rossi Jarvis. The 20-year-old academy product has been in contact with a number of clubs.Doesn''t fill me with confidence. It doesn''t make any difference who were linked with - if we offer less than half what clubs want we will rule ourselves out of the running.

Branston Pickle 4,152 Posted May 31, 2008 We''ve already done this one, earlier today ("Nothing new there then" - not the most obvious of title''s I grant you!). It seems that the administrators at Luton have a different idea to Bell''s worth than both us and Coventry, that''s all - as we both bid the same. C''est la vie, we can either up the bid or move on. Coventry have done the latter, so it seems.
Trent Canary 0 Posted May 31, 2008 “Looking at the offers on the table at the moment, Norwich were not even at 50pc of what we are looking at from the other bidders"Pretty sure thats made up. As it appears that Coventry bid the same as us.
Trent Canary 0 Posted May 31, 2008 But then thats what the selling club does. Although Luton are hardly in the best place to negotiate.
Carlos Valderrama 0 Posted June 1, 2008 “Looking at the offers on the table at the moment, Norwich were not even at 50pc of what we are looking at from the other bidders"This is just well placed media spin to try and drive the players price up. Especially knowing our track record in the transfer market in previous seasons, this is cleverly placed in an attempt to get us fans to put pressure on our board to up the ante. gazzathegreat 0 Posted June 1, 2008 If Luton want Rossi Jarvis, surely a swap deal could be worked out as a solution. Whether the report is spin or not, I am sure we will buy some players eventually. I hope.

chicken 0 Posted June 1, 2008 Well he is under 24 right - doesn''t that mean tribunal? We could waver that in favour of them being a little less tight arsed about Bell surely?
NegativeVibes 0 Posted June 1, 2008 I''m not sure but I thought you only got a tribunal fee if you offered the player a contract and he turned it down.
