Can''t score when you are on top.

Can''t keep a clean sheet when under pressure.

Serious money needs to be spent.

Really strange game.

Wednesday were woeful in the first half and we should have had 3 or 4 at half-time. The penalty was a daft decision, the ball was won cleanly!

Second half started off reasonably even but Wednesday got on top and we just looked like we were going through the motions.

Things got worse when Dublin went off, for his last game he was excellent, won absolutely everything that came his way, it was great to see the whole ground give him a standing ovation.

ooberboy - were you at the game? I''ve just got back and I thought Hucks was great, Ched looked sharp but Fozzy was very poor, along with the defence. Dion looked good in defence but not quite good enough up front. Credit to the Wednesday fans for singing him off though.

Certainly was at the game, great to live only 10 minutes from the ground!

I agree, Hucks had a great game, in the first half especially Wednesday couldn''t handle his pace and looked really vulnerable everytime the ball went out wide.

Agree that Ched looked sharp but today again illustrated that our real cutting edge is Hucks. Croft, for example, achieved absolutely nothing when he came on.

Despite the 4 conceeded I dont agree the defence was poor - the Doc won absolutely everything that came his way and the penalty was a complete nonsense which changed a game we were totally dominating.

The problem in our defence (again) was Marshall, who frankly was as much a spectator as I was. I dont know what the significance of Rudd being on the bench today was but it rather suggests that Gilks will be on his way in the summer which I think would be a great shame. Dont know if he''s better than Marshall but I would love to see him at least given a chance. Nearly everyone this season has had someone given a chance in ''their'' position with the exception of a keeper who appears to be totally incapable of leaving his line and is continually forcing his defence to defend balls that should be his.

Anyway rant over, we actually looked like a good side for half an hour today, and even in a much poorer second half we still created several respectable chances but Hucks was only one with the coolness to finish one.

"a keeper who appears to be totally incapable of leaving his line and is continually forcing his defence to defend balls that should be his."

Maybe because the defence are headless chickens who just get in the way when the keeper yells for it?????

Well I was sitting about 15ft away from him this afternoon and I didnt hear a single shout from him throughout the 45mins.

I saw the aimless waving of his arms that he does periodically and I could see the indecision on his face before he decided (belatedly) to stay where he was as balls flew across the six year box.

I dont like to knock our players but keeper is a key and very specialised position. Perhaps we''ve been spoilt over the years with the quality of keepers that we''ve had but sadly this guy hasnt got what it takes. That isnt the end of the world, I just dont understand why we havent at least tried out the second, supposedly very capable, keeper we have on our books.

I just don''t understand how people can be so critical of someone who has saved us so many points this season. He is a great young keeper, I agree he is a little indecisive at times but in terms of shot stopping what do you want from the bloke. He is still young in terms of goalkeepers and has the ability to be even better than the likes of Gunn and Green. The goals today were down to poor defending, but because he has conceded 4 it looks bad on him.

I''m not trying to suggest that the goals conceded today were all down to him because they clearly werent, but I do think that his inability to command any of the area around his goal increases the pressure on the rest of the defence. Watching him today I did think his kicking was showing signs of improvement until he came under a bit of pressure and he thumped a horrendous clearance straight at Doc in a really dangerous area.

He is a good shot stopper but all professional keepers make saves, it doesnt make them great keepers.

I accept that he is still young and he could improve. But having seen both Andy Marshall and Rob Green start their careers as great shot stoppers but then fail to develop into really top keepers, my impression is that this lad will go the same way.

Having said that I''m not suggesting that we ditch him but I am baffled as to why we havent at least given Gilks a try to see what he is capable of. It seems generally agreed that competition for places is a good thing and pushes players to perform better. Marshall seems to be the only player in the squad that is immune to this competition and I personally cant understand why.

I think the kicking incident you mentioned was due to a risky back pass in the first place but generally his kicking isn''t bad, he certainly isn''t an Andy Marshall’s on the kicking front. The opposition used to get fed up of taking throw ins he kicked it out that often lol. I can''t answer the Gilks question but Roeder sees him day in day out in training and I know it''s not the same as a match situation but he must have a good idea about him. I guess it''s always the same with keepers though isn''t. You keep everyone happy.
