BlyBlyBabes 0 Posted March 18, 2008 Roeder - who confirmed that no decisions had been made on new contracts for Huckerby, Mark Fotheringham and Gary Doherty - refuted suggestions that he had tinkered with the team line-up to accommodate loan players.“No, no, no,” he said. “I pick every team with a view that it is the team that I think will win the game.”Twaddle. In my view anyway. His claim just doesn''t stand scrutiny.Evidence? Examine the words surrounding the Henry fiasco for a start.OTBC
Trent Canary 0 Posted March 18, 2008 I see where he is coming from. Horses for courses in terms of players and tactics. But im a firm believer of playing the best lineup (Dependent on form), they will then adapt to the conditions.

Robert N. LiM 6,420 Posted March 18, 2008 There''s obviously an expectation (stated or unstated) from the loaning club that these players will play. Why on earth would you loan a player out otherwise? So Roeder is being economical with the truth here. But, the other side of the coin is this. GR must have signed the players on loan with the expectation that he would play them, and that they would improve the team. Otherwise, why would he sign them? And the only way to see whether they improve the team is to play them. Ryan Bertrand and Kieran Gibbs have very similar pedigree: both highly rated young players with very little experience. Bertrand has been outstanding; Gibbs has struggled. But how was Roeder to know that Bertrand would settle in so well? How was he to know that Gibbs'' lack of physicality would outweigh his natural skill? Having signed them, he had to give them a go, and not because Wenger or Arnesen was telling him to.If we get Evans and or Bertrand on a season-long loan next year, it will all be worth it. As long as we stay up, that is...
