How good could we be?

Recommended Posts

In a recent post I pointed out that we have played faily poorly recently, even when we picked up points. If someone wants to point out that we not long ago had a long unbeaten run which propelled us up the league, I would have to agree. In several of the games unbeaten, however, we had either to rely on a special moment, like the goals from Ched, Rusty and more recently Curo, or on Marshall and defence keeping the others out. (The defence has been aided on occasions by woeful finishing by opposing strikers.)When was the last time we actually threatened to anihilate another team or comprehensively outplayed them for most of a match? If there was a case, how could it be reproduced. Is the problem, as GR hints, that we lack quality, commitment and application? We do not seem to be getting them all together.Somehow, if we are to avoid a scramble to avoid relegation at the end, we have to play at our best. At the moment we are looking more like the team that brought an end to Grant''s reign.

I have to say that during the ''run'', we were lucky a few times, but then we needed the luck and they say that you create your own luck too. But we will get some luck back.

Well looking at our record over the last 30 years I would say we ought to be able to be as good as 1978 to 93.

Just shows how bad we have been for the last 15 years.

How ironic that our 3 best finishing positions were in front of crowds of 16/17,000.

Yep.. nail hit firmly on the head there!

We picked up points because we scored some goals and the defenders and keeper stopped some.

While I agree it''s a long time since we dominated a game before Roeder arrived it had been a long time since we were even in a game.

Agreed, we have been making the most of what we`ve got, we are unlikely to destroy anyone in this league because we clearly aren`t good enought to do that. Roeder has got us scrapping for points, getting a bit of luck here and there and thats the sort of team we are.Nothing more nothing less. If our luck changes, which seems to be happening, there will be a true test of character for the rest of the season.

Glenn''s done wonders......but we have had an element of ''good fortune'' in quite a few of our results....

Reading Mr Dublin''s comment''s today in the Pink''Un, I am entirely in agreement in what the man says.......We still aren''t out of the woods yet, and there are no easy paths out of it - as we''re surrounded by ''prickly bramble'' and need a sharp machete to clear a path and achieve our goals....
