sp.. just WHO WOULD make your greatest 11.

Recommended Posts

obviously fans of an "older generation" are going to have an advantage having seen the greats of yesteryear...

Im going to try and construct a team based on what i have been told by family... been following the club since 1992 so any thing before that is based on the fact i never saw those players play!

so here goes.

Keelan

Culverhouse

Bowen

Butler

Stringer

Crossan

Huckerby

Crook

Peters

Gavin

Roberts

how do u all think that lot would of fared?

Many many more players could of course been called up but you can only have 11... Im sure Chivers, Paddon, Gunn and lots more will feature in other peoples teams..

so come on, Lets be avin ya! put ur teams below!

jas :)

I''m mid 80''s too so:

Gunn, Culverhouse, Bowen, Bruce, Linighan, Fox, Huckerby, Crook, Phillips, Sutton, Fleck (1st time).

I''d shuffle the formation a bit to accomodate these players. I know Linighan isn''t the best CB in my time, but I loved watching him play which has been the basis for my team choices.

When I saw the ''Greatest Ever Event'' headline on the Pink Un home page, I certainly wasn''t expecting to read about Jamelia, Rydian and that Ray kid!

Very difficult isn''t it.  The problem is, are you supposed to pick your best 11 players ever, or pick an actual side, ie 1 goalie, 4 defenders etc.....??

As most people seem to be going for a playing eleven then here''s mine;

                        Keelan

Culverhouse   Bruce   Watson   Bowen

Barham      Townsend   Paddon   Huckerby

                  Peters   Sutton

Bench :  A cast of ooh...... Hundreds

Manager : Mike Walker

Culverhouse

Bruce

Malky

Bowen

Fox

Crook

Townsend

Huckerby

Bellamy/Sutton

Iwan (not as technically good as some others but scored goals & was loyal)

Only started watching since the mid-90s and though I''m aware of Keelan, Peters et al I''ll only include players I''ve seen pull on the shirt when I''ve been there.

Green

Nedergaard Kenton Mackay Drury

Bentley Francis Holt Eadie

Ashton Bellamy

No Huckerby?! Blimey.

It''s not really an advantage Jas when you consider how many the OG''s have to choose from. It makes it more difficult really. I pick from 1967 onwards and choose from: -

GK: Keelan, Woods, Gunn, Green.

RB: Machin, Culverhouse, Nedergaard.

LB: Sullivan, Downes, Bowen.

CB: Stringer, Forbes, Jones, Powell, Hareide, Watson, Bruce, Butterworth, Linnighan, Polston, Newsome, Fleming, Mackay.

MF: Bryceland, Anderson, Paddon, Livermore, Suggett, Peters, O''Neill, Phelan, Williams, Crook, Townsend, Phillips, Safri.

Wingers: Foggo, Neighbour, Barham, Gordon, Fox, Adams, Eadie, Huckerby.

Forwards: Curran, Cross, Bone, MacDougall, Boyer, Reeves, Fashanu, Royle, Deehan, Channon, Drinkell, Fleck, Sutton, Ekoku, Robins, Bellamy, Roberts, Ashton, Svensson, Earnshaw, Dublin.

So... I always start with Keelan and include Peters but otherwise choose a different eleven everytime.

Tell you what though... it''s great being an old git and seeing that lot play for City [;)][Y]

Pretty good Nutty but I beg to make a few additions.

Keepers           Nethercott

Backs              Dennis Morgan,  Barry Staton

CB                 Monty Norman,   Barry Butler

MF                Jimmy Hill

Wingers          Bobby Brennan,  Errol Crossan

Forwards        Ron Davies,   Terry Allcock

Impossible to pick one team when you''ve seen so many good players but I would have to agree with you that Peters and Keelan pick themselves. All else is personal preference.

Like you, from the occassions that I saw him play at UP, I was surprised that more people didn''t put Duncan Forbes in their line up. Captain too, wasn''t he?

I thought that Paddon was a was a great player, who was very underated.

Just shows us what the current lot are like, doesn''t it?

Not there. Never will.

Although I suspect that nutty may argue that the Doc has potential if he can stick around long enough.

I think ''civvy'' Culverhouse and Taff Bowen are going to make the official 11.... Worryingly theres been no other contenders to challenge those positions since!

I''ve been a Canary since 1981 and this is so difficult that I''ve come up with 3 teams but only one manager ans subs as that''s my first choice!

        Roberts Sutton
Huckerby Crook Bellamy Barham
Jackson Watson Bruce Bowen
                  Woods

Subs:- Keelan, McKay, Townsend, Channon (super sub), Robins (remember the opening game of the season against Arsenal)

Manager:- Walker (first time)

                Robins Ward Fleck
                 Fox Goss Gordon
Butterworth Linnigan Needergaard McKay
                        Keelan

              Peters Drinkell
Eadie Townsend Williams Channon
 Drury Newsome Walford Hareide

                    Gunn

the online vote forces you to pick 4-4-2 with 2 wingers so you end up picking a right winger who wouldn''t otherwise makes most greatest XIs.

And no Drinkell or Polston as options !

Why did they have to shortlist anyway?
