Roeder - Potential City Great?

Recommended Posts

I try not to get too carried away with good or bad results but you just can''t ignore 11 games unbeaten.  We have rode our luck against Wolves and Saints but balanced that out with hammering Leicester and not winning.

The way Roeder has turned us round has been nothing short of remarkable and the signs are there that there is more to come.  He has gone about his work in a low-key and calculated way which has impressed me no end.  He is almost the polar opposite of Grant, he doesn''t rant and rave at and about players, he just drops them and places have to be earned back.  In the same way he is loyal to players who performed rather than the Grant/Worthington days where someone could play well then not find themselves in the team or even the matchday squad next game.  Roeder is clearly demanding and earning the respect of the players by his actions, not by his words and he is getting that respect.  In turn Roeder is giving the players confidence, Russell said yesterday that earlier in the year he was fearing other teams but now he feels like we are never going to lose.  Roeder refused to panic when we were 5 points adrift at the bottom and again in the transfer window and if I didn''t know better you assume that Kipling had written a poem about him.  The players seem to no longer panic either, even when we soaking up lots of Southampton pressure the other night.

I find it exciting thinking about the coming seasons under Roeder not just in terms of play-offs, promotion etc but the feeling that he is going to try to put together a young team playing good football and I think the future looks so much brighter for City under him.  He appears to always be planning for the future while taking care of today and I think he may well go on to be remebered as one of our better managers.

Lets hope the board find the ambition to back Roeder because if another club with ambition comes calling for him he may look at their grass as being greener.

FOOBALL MUST COME FIRST
