Hardhouse44 289 Posted January 11, 2008 Well that a good old clear out and not mistaking. The memory Grant, a cheep option at the time which in the end nearly cost us the earth has been well and truly wiped out at this club. The dross that he saddled us with has gone and not a moment too soon. His appointment still is and will maybe always remain the biggest mistake and passage of miss guidance this board has ever been guilty of. To employ an inexperience man of his calibre was a crime in it''s self. To the allow him the money and free hand to sign players of the quality of the three that we have parted company with this week was nothing short of catastrophe. Now as I browse the threads upon here I see many people who whilst glad we have cast off the shackles of the grant era in the removal of these players showing a nervous and impatient tendency towards their replacements. This is the point of my thread. Grants purchases were unwise, poorly researched and in many cases panic buys. Chris Brown was a panic buy, Brellier and Strihavka clearly not researched well enough. Even Cureton was bought more on a whim. A fan pleaser that has back fired in many ways.I say we have to get these next deals right. We can''t rush them just because we need bodies to make up a squad. Players are out there. Good players and affordable players. We must not panic buy any more, we must not take players we have never heard of from other countries just because we can. We need to trust our managers knowledge and experience. we must trust he will make his contacts work for him. I for one would rather see 2 quality acquisitions in this transfer window that half a dozen journey men and no marks. We will sign player between now and Jan 31st. If we have to wait until the last day as long as those player improve on what we had and have then that’s fine by me. We have to get it right this time or run the risk of relegation and possibly extinction. We have a good guy in charge. A strong manager who knows his mind and who has the ability to do great things at our beloved club. We don''t need to panic just because he hasn''t brought in replacements yet. In fact we can take heart from the fact. Because he''s waiting and getting it right.OTBC.
Big Down Under 0 Posted January 12, 2008 I agree Hardhouse, I would rather we sign the right players on Jan 31st than the wrong players now. I think reading this (click on the top link) http://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/content/Sport/GlennRoeder/story.aspx? that GR agrees too!We have signed badly since relegation (actually since promotion) and finally, since Roeder arrived, we seem to be signing better. We just need more perm contracts rather than loans.I really thought Big Dave and Brellier would be successes for us, I''m gutted they have turned out to be so poor. Seems Strihavka didn''t have the strength (mental or physical) and Brellier didn''t have the attitude. Both should have been recognised before they were signed. Did Grant even see Strihavka play with his own eyes? We obviously don''t have a huge budget, its vital we don''t waste any more money on terminated contracts. And no more squad fillers please like Russell and Cureton, we need better than we currently have to continue to climb above the relegation zone.
