However old is he now? I vaguely remember him as being a solid enough player without ever being a fans'' favourite - can''t imagine anyone would harbour any bad feelings for the guy. I''d guess he''ll get polite applause from the fans...
canaryjock 0 Posted January 4, 2008 He was pretty good for us Colin Woodthorp. He was a full back who left in the early 90s for Aberdeen. Don''t think he played in our UEFA cup run but I''m sure a 10 min internet search would soon tell us.This was during the period when we had a few players with amusing names - Woodthorp, Culverhouse, Butterworth, Polston, Robins, Goss etc. A memorable time! gazzathegreat 0 Posted January 4, 2008 I think he''ll get a good reception yes. He was never a first team regular, but was a decent enough squad player and didn''t leave under a cloud. He must have done well for you, what''s he been like?
Matt Juler 148 Posted January 4, 2008 Yes, I''m sure he will from the fans who remember him. It will not be the biggest reception ever, but certainly no hatred (well I certainly hope not)!

Nishclishbang 0 Posted January 4, 2008 Gentle applause I''d say - not only was he never a regular (Bowen held the shirt), he wasn''t really one of those players that provoked a reaction, so many will forget his time at Carrow Rd....like some on the message board. ncfcfaithful 0 Posted January 4, 2008 I''ll give him a round of applause. Was one of those players who never broke in to the team for a regular run of games but was always solid enough when he came on. He played in the San Siro but always found himself behind the likes of Culverhouse and Bowen which is pretty understandable.I always got the impression he was a good pro to have around and it''s good to see one of the players from NCFC''s golden days still going strong!! Mason 47 1,373 Posted January 4, 2008 Wasnt a Mckenzie, wasnt a Marshall (A)....Will get a clap, good reception just dont make any bad tackles or he will get abuse...

Stevo 0 Posted January 4, 2008
can''t imagine anyone would harbour any bad feelings for the guy.
Apart from me! I went to see City reserves play away at Brighton when I was living down there. Crowd of about 50 including me and another City fan. Woody made an over-lapping run down the left and ''Chippy'' Crook chose to ignore it (very wise) and ping a 40 yard cross-field pass instead. Woodthorpe looked dejected as he resumed left-back duties so to cheer him up, I called out "never mind Woody mate, that was a cracking run!". Detecting the sarcasm in my voice he promptly told me to "F off"!20 minutes later he got sent off for elbowing down at the far corner.....I escorted him all the way back to the tunnel along the stand. I thought he was going to ''Cantona'' me!

Robert N. LiM 4,241 Posted January 4, 2008 I shall be giving Colin a round of applause as a representative, however peripheral, of the finest era in City''s history.I wonder if a less talented player has ever played in the San Siro? He was one of the beneficiaries of the three suspended Ians that cost us dear that day.
alex_ncfc 647 Posted January 4, 2008 When I first saw this thread I thought we had re-signed him..Must be getting on a bit now? Was playing for us back in ''91!
Unlucky Fried Kitten 0 Posted January 4, 2008 I''ve looked up Woodthorpe''s details on the Flown From The Nest website and I find he''s actually a little bit older than Dion Dublin. Colin will be 39 in a few days time, so his best days must be behind him, with his playing career drawing to a close. I don''t recall him ever being an established 1st team player - maybe Mark Bowen had something to do with that!

Canary Boy 0 Posted January 4, 2008
Must be the only player from the San Siro game still playing football...
I think Spencer Prior is still playing. ca 1 Posted January 4, 2008 He was on the Scrimmage the other night and said he can''t wait to play one last game at CR. Was talking to Darren Eadie and they were raking up old and funny memories when they played on the left side together.Nice man who''ll get a good reception. Hes 38 now!
