Poor tactics and a midfield of andy hughes''  full of endeavour but rarely doing anything positive with the ball :-(

Marshall - 7  Did well generally and tried to play the ball from the back

Otsemobor 7  One of hi better games,  able to get forward well but rarely exposed at the back despite Thomas''pace.

Camara 7 Solid, and got forward well too.

Shax - 6 defended well but poor passing

Doc 7 Defended well.

Hux 5  Nothing came off for him oday,  too many crosses hit the first man.

Rusty 6 overall,   7 fr ball winning and defending, although Holland gave both him and Patty too many problems,  4 for use of ball,  movement to collect the ball and movement off the ball in any attacking sense.

Pattison 6 7 for defensive side,  but 5 for use off ball,  creatively better than rusty,  with a couple of bursts forward,  but not enough to cause charlton any problems.

Smith 5 Either play him in the middle or not at all,  Superb movement and best link up play from any offensive player,  but too peripheral overall.  Narrowed the pitch b coming in when we needed width and depth.

Evans 5 Looking lightweight and one good chance from a free header not even make the keeper work.  Did not look like scoring.

Cureton 5  Worked so hard but nothing came off;  did not look like scoring,  but did provide movement.

Subs

Croft 6;  actually kept two consecutive crosses the right side of the by line!!!  Still not good enough but better today

Dion 4 - poor link up play,  weak in the air and immobile,  why did we want him on again?   Made us play the long ball even more than we should have done.

Roeder - 5  should have gone 3-5-2 in the second half;   choices from the bench show how shallow the quality of the squad is.

Marshall - 7

Otsemobor 6 Didn''t get forward enough or look interested in overlapping with Smith first half

Camara 6 I worry about his aerial defence, he doesn''t want to head it and that could be problematic against hoofball sides

Shax - 6 defended well but poor passing

Doc 7 Defended well.

Hux 4  Didn''t look interested.  Ran when passing should have been the play, passed when running should have been the play

Rusty 6 - 5 first half, 7 second half

Pattison 6 - 7 first half, 5 second half.  Some poor passing

Smith 5 - Ineffective and didn''t stretch the ten men wide

Evans 5 - off day, I hope.

Cureton 5 - off month, I hope

Subs

Croft 6 - the Barclay love him, but I remain unconvinced.  Didn''t do much but at least gave us width.

Dion 6 - held the ball up well but no runners for outlets.

Roeder - 6 - didn''t change the personnel until too late

Marshall   7   Not much to do, but did nothing wrong.

Semmy   7   Constantly improving, solid display against a good player in Jerome Thomas.

Camara   7   Solid, no mistakes, offered something going forward. (though perhaps due to extra man)

Doherty   6   Not as bad as people make out, but was at fault for goal.

Shackall   7   Did well, Iwelumo kept reasonably quiet, and he is a man mountain. Easier after break for him, Mcleod non existant.

Smith   6   Quiet, but out of position. Tucks inside, and doesnt do much wrong.

Pattison   7   Does the dirty work, runs all game, and makes us hard to beat.

Russell   7   Got his goal, and improved as game went on after a slow start. Tough battle against Holland and co.

Hucks  5.5 (7/4)   Decent first half, caused trouble, second half was dire, quiet and when he got it no quality.

Cureton   7   Looked lively. Looked more confident and perhaps the player we were expecting. Fancied him to nick a winner but perhaps unluckily subbed.

Evans   6    Didnt seem to get into much in the first half, but showed some good touches as the game went on. Perhaps should have done better with chances.

Subs:

Croft   6   Headless Chicken Syndrome i''m afraid, did get a couple of decent crosses in but runs intop trouble, and lacks a real threat.

Dublin   5   Harsh perhaps, but didnt really get in it, looked a bit off the pace i thoguht.

Marshall - 6 - Probably at fault for the goal and had nothing else to do

Otsemobor -  5 - Disappointing. Did not look interested and constantly slowed the pace of the game down. At times outclassed by Thomas.

Camara - 7 - Decent link up with Huckerby and his mind seems to be set in the right direction.

Shackell - 7 - Fairly mistake free game but passing was poor.

Doc - 7 - Defended well but did not stand up properly for Zheng''s goal..

Hux - 5 - When he was interested, looked dangerous but otherwise was generally quite tame.

Rusty - 6 - Worked hard but he is too clumsy and slow to react.

Pattison - 6 - Not one of his better games. Poor passing and most of his corners were easily cleared

Smith  - 4 - Clearly uncomfortable on the right and was generally silent

Evans  - 6 - Did what Cureton did. Just did it a bit better.

Cureton - 3 - Service was poor but he just wasn''t good enough.

Subs

Croft - 8- Gave us self belief in the attack and gave Charlton something more to think about, changed the game and when he came on, for the first time it looked like we were playing 10 men..

Dion - 6 -Should have been on 10 minutes earlier. Could have won us the game

Roeder - 6 - Disappointed to see Smith and Cureton start and he looked reluctant to change things around but when he came into the technical area, they began to play a bit. Shows they have respect for the bloke.

Fans - 6 - Where I was sitting was like a library, only the Barclay and Snakepit generated much noise. We need more noise from the other stands throughout the game. Improved in the second half though

Marshall - 6

Otsemobor - 7

Doherty - 8

Shackell - 8

Camara - 8

Smith - 3 - Waste of space on the right wing, offers no threat or width

Russell - 9 - Man of the match, easily. Totally immense in midfield and deserved his goal

Pattison - 7 - Passing went to pot later on but did a lot of good work off the ball and didn''t hide even when it didn''t go for him

Huckerby - 5 - Okay first half, very quiet second

Evans - 7

Cureton - 4

SUBS:

Croft - 8 - made a real impact on the right and put some good crosses in

Dublin - 6

Basically, Marshall did what he had to do well, the defence aside from Shackell was superb- especially Doc but maube thats what made Shackell look pretty rubbish..

Midfield lacked something there; we spent most the game in their half, but we didnt have the invention to move forward so it usually went sideways. Fozzys absence, perhaps? Smith, I cant see how he started again let alone come out for the second half. Stick Croft on the right as Chad is injured, or find a new right back somewhere and push Speedy on. Hucks was pretty useless- Croft on for him, Smith to the middle and Pattison to the left?

Forwards, couldnt do much as its hard to score without the ball. Thought Dion should have been on for Evans earlier.

Bench- Does lack some depth- not entirely sure how Spillane keeps getting in. BTW Martin- from the reserve showing a week or so ago, he is unfit, cant be bothered and very very slow. This is apparently better than both Dave and Brown...
