Unlucky Fried Kitten 0 Posted December 31, 2007 It goes without saying, but I''ll say it anyway, Saturday''s "entertainment??" was extremely poor from a City fan''s perspective. When, oh when, are we going to see some free-flowing attractive football again? We seem to be served up with the same old stale uncreative, unimaginative fare that we have had to suffer ever since the dying days of the Worthy regime. We seem to have forgotten how to take the game to the opposition and break them down with some incisive attacking football. Why is this after so many changes in personnel; whether on the coaching side or playing side of things? Is it the case that we can only attract 3rd Division standard players to the club now, and so therefore have little choice other than to put up with 3rd Division standard football , or are the deep-rooted problems something more arcane than that? It''s all beginning to turn out a bit like the plot in the film Groundhog Day.
can u sit down please 0 Posted December 31, 2007 Rome wasnt built in a day, give Roeder time and i think he will improve us ten fold. January will give him the opportunity (if backed) to really make the starting XI his own. What i am liking tho is our resilliance(spl?) we are no longer rolling over and getting hammered. We are picking up pts steadily. We are in a scrap, sometimes it aint pretty........

Chapman_Baxter 0 Posted December 31, 2007 When we''re safely away from any threat of relegation, then we can thinkabout entertaining - for now, I''m happy to be getting some results.
Salopian 1 Posted December 31, 2007 I am not sure that it is third rate. Inconsistent, yes, but able to produce the football they played against Sheffield Utd, and if you look at the record since Roeder took them in hand, they are a top half team.I don''t see them as promotion material - they are three or four good players short of this, but if they can improve their consistency, even with the poor start and no new extra players they ought to be at least mid-table.Quite why they give up the passing game and resort to dross, probably GR struggles to understand. At the moment there is little creativity from the midfield, but with Fozzy back and an effective Hux and a real right winger, who knows what could be achieved. I would like to think that a draw at Palace is a possibility.
Branston Pickle 3,634 Posted December 31, 2007 Before you criticise too much, perhaps you should take in the reality of our current position? Maybe you have forgotten, but we were bottom by 5pts and playing like rank amateurs only a handful of games ago. For one reason or another, the manager/players have manged to turn things round to be on a good run which has now put us among the favourites to stay up. Frankly, I''m not really that bothered how we get out of the mire. Yes we all want to see good flowing football - Roeder himself has said he wants to play properly - but there are clearly times when things aren''t quite clicking on the pitch which mean you need to mix it up. Saturday was such an occasion, we were playing poorly but got stuck in and came away with a point we would not have got only a month ago. Perhaps it was not great entertainment, particularly in the first half, but football is often like that. It does sound like you weren''t at the Charlton or Sheff Utd games where we played as well as we have for some time - it really is rather unfair to base all your assumptions about how we are playing on one game.PS: if anyone honestly thinks that all those years that Iwan was here we only played free-flowing football, they are rather deluded. Unlucky Fried Kitten 0 Posted December 31, 2007 I think Glenn has to be extremely shrewd, with a little bit of luck as well, when he dips into the transfer market. We are badly in need of more quality in most areas of the pitch. I haven''t really been particularly convinced by any of the loan signings, apart from Tiny, and can quite understand why their clubs have been happy to see the back of them for a while. Without talented reinforcements I think we might have quite a struggle on our hands to avoid the dreaded "R" Word at the end of this season.
Coelho 0 Posted December 31, 2007
with Fozzy back and an effective Hux and a real right winger, who knows what could be achieved.
We''ve got a real right winger, it''s just that Roeder doesn''t seem to think that he''s capable of playing for more than half an hour! I think Roeder has done a very good job so far, but his insistence on starting Smith on the right of midfield is infuriating - he drifts infield, doesn''t move to offer Otsemobor a simple pass and seems incapable of taking on and beating anyone. I''d rather we didn''t extend his loan (he must be earning a few bob too), played Croft on the right and called up Bally Smart from the youth team to come off the bench - he caused chaos for MK Dons with his sheer pace and directness. I also don''t think Camara offers us anything that Lappin doesn''t, plus Lappin is better at set pieces than anyone currently in the team. If we are prepared to stump up for Taylor and can hang on to Pattison and Evans, I don''t see any reason why we shouldn''t be comfortably mid-table by the end of the season, which was unthinkable after we lost at West Brom. Mello Yello 2,279 Posted December 31, 2007 And where''s the first rate finance coming from - to assemble a first rate team?........We''ll be getting a dodgy financial loan off Piswich next.We are not play-off contenders by any means......we are a less than average squad - that has knuckled down and increased work-rate and ''acquired'' some decent results with average performances (and with an element of good fortune in some games). Someone smacked it on the head in another thread about us not showing for the ball....Pass and movement weren''t exactly evident at the last 2 home games and following up efforts on goal by our ''attacking'' players just wasn''t occurring (never give up on lost causes). Glenn, Lee and Paul are doing their utmost and the best they bloody well can with what''s available - and are to be highly commended for achieving those vital points.I sincerely hope more than third rate finance is being made available for essential purchases starting tomorrow.......We are still in the cesspit at the moment - fortunately only up to our shoulders...... BlyBlyBabes 0 Posted January 1, 2008 I would imagine that it''s something to do with having a fourth rate board for the past thirteen years, wouldn''t you?You know, sort of cause and effect thingamajig. But naaaaaah. The Fish Seller 0 Posted January 1, 2008 A few years back I had a brand new Bentley Continental. Smashing car, loads of extras, top notch performance etc.But........ Very expensive to run so I sold it.Put a few quid aside for the tax bill, spent quite a bit having a new garage built, bought an ex demo Mercedes S Class and used the rest to pay the running costs, petrol, servicing etc. After a while the price of petrol went up so I sold the Merc, used the cash to get a new kitchen fitted, paid off a chunk of the mortgage and still had enough for a slightly second hand Renault Espace again using what was left to run the car. After a while the kids left home and I didn''t need the space so I sold the espace, used some of the money to have the house decorated, had a car porch put on the front of the garage, paid off my credit cards and still had enough left to buy a nice Clio.Problem is that petrols gone so expensive I can''t afford to drive it so I''m thinking of selling the Clio and getting a cheap old runaround for a few hundred quid and the balance should meet the running costs for a few years.Of course maybe if I''d accepted that there would be extra running costs which would need met other than by selling the car when I had the Bentley, I''d still have a first rate carStill on the bright side at least I''ve got a smashing garage and carport and you should see the kithen....... ricardo 7,345 Posted January 1, 2008 Ha Ha Ha. Loved it Roedy. If things get really tight I''d advise you to convert the garage into an American themed restuarant. Who knows, you could eventually generate enough income to run a nice little moter scooter.

Carrow89 0 Posted January 1, 2008 Roedy''s post clearly shows how close to suffolk some of our ''fans'' live.We should stop trying to run the club like most other professional outfits and copy a North West Norfolk football club. Players could change in their cars (cars, luxury !), fans could climb up trees for batter view and all games could be played in daylight. We would undoubtedly soon have the same numbers of fans. Get rid of such wasteful stuff as kit, half time oranges and magic sponges - Football must come first

corbs 0 Posted January 1, 2008 So we have a 4th rate Board, well out of interest which individuals will make up your idea of a 1st rate Board, and what strategy would you like them to follow?
London_Canary 0 Posted January 1, 2008 You should have seen some of the neat passing build up play we produced today, no lie we looked a different class to Palace at times today when we carved open their defence to create some good chances through some very neat one touch football that was very pleaseing on the eye, I don''t know how the hell Roeder got us passing the ball about that well because that''s not something I have come used to in recent years but full credit to him and yets just hope we can keep it up. Unlucky Fried Kitten 0 Posted January 2, 2008 I''m delighted to say that it sounds like we were far from 3rd rate at Selhurst Park yesterday, from what I could tell from listening to Radio Norfolk''s match commentary. We were probably unlucky to go home with only one point - a real turn up for the books at this appalling ground where City rarely take anything. There''s still a hell of a lot of work to do to gain enough points for safety, though. Unfortunately, none of the teams at the bottom seem ready to curl up and die quietly.
